Disc resurfaced?

Alright, so I bought some DVDs off Amazon marketplace, received them on Saturday. Bought two sets, one works and the other doesn't. Call it a hunch, but I think the set that doesn't work was probably used, resurfaced, and the seller sold it as "new"

I say that because it just skips like hell, takes literally 3 minutes to load anything, and when I hold the disc edges between my thumb and forefinger, it feels kinda... thin, I suppose. I compared it to the DVDs that do work and it does seem more thin.

Either way I think I'm gonna return it, but I'd like to figure out if it is in fact resurfaced just in case he tries to pull a fast one and say it's something with my DVD player. Anyone know any surefire ways to tell if it's been done?

If the movies are from Sony Studio from a few years back there is a possibility that your DVD player is not compatible with the copy protection. My Harman Kardon player can't read them. I was a bit upset that I couldn't play Casino Royal. I believe they have since corrected the copy protection but I'm sure those discs are out there.

Take is down to BB and throw it into three or four players. Of none of them play it, it's a bad disc and send it back.

Otherwise, what whiskers said.

You can try doing a "lossless" rip of the disc in WMP and then burning it if there isn't copy protection. I've done this to save music that was burned poorly. If it does have encryption you could try DVD decryptor It still works for lots of older movies.
