What's your favorite hard drive brand?

I'm just wondering,

What's your favorite brand of Hard Drive?

If you've had good/bad experiences please share...

I personally have stuck by Seagate from day one. I've never had a Seagate drive crash on me. I've got 4 seagate hard drives in my computers at home, 1 Seagate notebook drive in my pocket drive I built. My work computers have seagate drives in them as well.

So far, i've had good luck with my Western Digital Raptor drive too. But I'm not a big fan of WD.

Maxtor & Hitachi suck period. I'm never gonna buy one of those ever again.

Toshiba also makes some good drives.

Every disk drive can fail. Just buy two of whatever's on sale and backup your shit.

20GB should be enought for your Windows XP, a few large game and all the program you'll need. and still have room for some pics and mp3.

at this point, I'm not a fan of any HD above 120GB. I've had a 200, 180, and 160 all fail within 6-12 months of use. And to me that is ridiculous. They were under warranty and I sent them in and got them replaced free, but I still lost data. What's the point of having so much storage space if its not reliable storage? the 180 and 160 were both of the Western Digital 8MB cache variety. Forgot what the 200 is. I just setup a new machine, 2.53GHz - hard drives? primary = 40gb, 7200rpm. secondary = 80gb, 7200rpm. Reliable storage is MUCH more important than amount of storage.

I have a 120gb that has been a trooper, along with a few 80's and 40's.. they are great. Have been running for years without issue. :knockonwood:. But above 120... not only are you increasing the chance of data loss, but backing them up starts to get ridiculous, even with DVDR's. 400GB drives? How the fuk are you gonna back that up? What if you wake up one day and you find all your data gone?

Doesn't having a good power supply, good motherboard, and a clean running OS also play somewhat of a role in how well your hard drive works and lasts?

Supplying a stable and consistent amount of power to your hard drive will help prolong it's life.
Having a motherboard and good running OS plays a factor in this as well.

Seagate. I have a bunch of their drives running around and they have all been flawless, and nice and quiet too! I had two WD 40GB drives die one me, one in only 1 week.

I've been running my 40GB WD as my system drive for over 5 years now work fine for me. Got another WD 160GB as storage for about 2 years no problem. Got a Maxtor 120GB for my PS2 no problem also. Built a computer for my dad about 2 years ago and it was a 120GB WD. I dont know i haven't had any problem with any of the Western Digital HD i've used. I got a bunch of old Maxtor that been in the storage for years and only take em out if i'm throwing a computer together for somebody that need a computer.
