What's a good webpage design software?

Not too expensive nor difficult to use. I have some html knowledge and was planning on setting up a webpage for my small business.

100% hand coded

Use notepad or another editor (I like editpad lite).

Or if you want something quick & dirty, try dreamweaver.

That's what alot of people where I work use. But the better designers here end up ripping out alot of the "useless" code.

I never used a code generator, but then again, my handcoded stuff sucks

hmm.

i can write HTML like i speak english...

but i think you are getting your info from some very old sources.

dreamweaver inserts very little useless code........ it is the handcoders wysywig. based off homesite... the greatest raw code html/jscript developer evar.

i challenge you to show me a page where dreamweaver has inserted excessive useless code.

most BETTER designers use good tools that increase productivity and allow less room for error.

anyone who handcodes 10000% of the time these days is wasting their life.... and probably fucking up alot more than the next guy.

i hate to admit it. but any web developer telling you they handcode 100% in 2004 is lying.

dont forget to run code clean up & source formatting before you save your file as well.

I used to hand-code EVERYTHING, back in the late '90s, because there was simply nothing good. FrontPage is an absolute joke. Most people out-grow FrontPage by the time they've finished their first site with it.

I've been using DreamWeaver since it was first released, and I recommend it to everyone.

Like soopa said, it puts in little or not useless coding

Also:
* It rarely, if ever, automatically reformats your code "just because". Some editors will reformat your code if you do nothing more than open the file and save it again without making any other changes. That's just stupid.

* If and when it does reformat the code, it usually only affects the areas you change yourself, and it usually does not adversely affect the final output.

* It simply does not mess with existing code (stuff you may have written or adjusted by hand) unless you explicityly change it in the editor. (this was a big selling point for me when we got our first copy). That goes for ASP scripts, JavaScript blocks or just fancy, hand-coded HTML.

contribute isnt for page or site design... contribute is intended to allow non-designers to interact with the layout of pages as allowed by the developer.

the developer designates areas, usually plain text, that the user of contribute can edit.

you can get Dreamweaver MX 2004 for around $100.

i am a PHP developer. it is great to have the ability to quickly insert a table or an image without having to worry about it fucking with the formatting of your code.

I've had a few occassions where dreamweaver fucks up my code... specifically when dealing with manually inserting form tags into 'complex' table structures, or server side html includes... at any rate, its still the way to go for quick & dirty sites.

show me an example of it happening. i have been using dreamweaver and/or homesite since at least 94/95.......... ive never had an instance of my code getting fucked up by either.

I'm still hand coding my personal stuff (aircooled vw hobby site). Like I've said, I've never used a code generator before. I'm just passing on what others have told me.

One of the web people here has said that he's had to remove "useless" code. I've seen some of his stuff, so maybe he's dealing with the ID 10 T error stuff

I really should break down and get a copy of dreamweaver, but I'm only hacking this shit, not doing it for a living.

What?? And learn something new

My brother probably has a copy of it in his "archives".

I've been coding by hand since '98, so it's tough to give up old habits

its not like you cant code by hand in dreamweaver.

dreamweaver is the best hand coding environment in the world...

it has some of the best color coding, code hints, code completion that there is.
