A few people I know use php. Its really professional looking and pretty straight forward to use. Im sure someone with alot better knowledge of this can guide you in a better direction for "free" hosting, you may want to find "cheap" because after all nothing is actually "free" now is it? The old saying you get what you pay for comes to mind.

php nuke example

php-nuke

*edit* ok so I found a free host but I have never used it
90megs.com
let me know what you find out

http://www.phpbb.com/ is the one I'm most familiar with in terms of the free forum software packages...

Thesamba.com is the biggest aircooled vw forum on the 'net and they use it:

(but I'm sure that Everett has hacked the heck out of it)

I would STRONGLY recommend staying away from phpbb, there has been numerous security issues flying around with the 2.x.x releases.

True, and having to install numerious patches (along with low traffic) forced me to shut down my little hobby site forum. I just didn't think it was worth the effort for the traffic it was getting...

If it's a small forum, and you stay on top of the patches, it's not that bad. BUT as usually you get what you pay for (it's free).
