What was your first cell phone??

Just thought this would make an interesting thread. Here's mine:

Motorola DPC 650

I had it with Airtouch(now Verizon). It was what you get for free at the time. Keep in mind that this was when everyone was still using analog and no one used digital yet. Everyone was afraid to switch to digital at the time because it had horrible coverage. The battery life on this phone was like 30 min talk time(couldn't go over my free minutes if i wanted to) ... It had no caller ID and your numbers were stored in each key as speed dial. There was no real phonebook, no video games, not even a calculator. This thing used to take up all the space in my pocket and with the extended battery it weighed about 2 pounds(i think). I used to have to carry 2 spare batteries everywhere I went. After I talked on it for a while it would get so hot, I could've ironed my clothes with it. My next phone after this was a Startac 3000

I had one that was about the size of a notebook computer that had a cord to the handset. You'd think I was out to call Radio Free Europe w/ the thing, don't even remember who made it (Motorola??) Had a shoulder strap to carry it, whatta laugh.

I know the 'bag phone' that Chief F1 Fan is referring too. These were quite popular in the late 80s/early 90s. A number of friends had them.

My first cellular phone was a Motorola DynaTAC that looked something like this -- late 1980s/early 1990s

It was acuatlly considered sort of compact -- compared to the generation before that had much larger battery packs.

My next phone (early 1990s) was a DiamondTel. This was nice. It was flat and farily compact. The picture below is of another Mitsubishi phone -- mine looked similar but was definitly marketed under DiamondTel.

I've had a variety of phones since then -- Audiovox, Qualcomm (several of these), LG...

My first was in 1988 or 1989, it was a permanent mobile install from NEC carphone. It was $799. Handheld phones were unaffordable at the time, >$1000.

Had a Motorola Microtac Ultralite from '96-'99. When it was purchased in early '95 it was the lightest and thinnest phone available with one whole line of text! Can't believe the original purchase price was almost $1k and today they give away much better phones for free.

Within three years switched to a digital only Sprint Startac, what a difference.-

Much different than my v710-
