I don't believe GSM is considered cellular as it refers analog signal...in that case, I think my first one was an AT&T Nokia 6160 POS...then I got Verizon and that was a bad experience...Voicestream (now T-Mobile) saved the day.

My first one was so old I can't even find pics of it.

Looked something like this. A true "car phone" Had the brain mounted underneath the seat. I still have it in a box somewhere in my garage.

LG 3100. If you wanted it to make calls and get so hot your face would turn red, this was the phone for you.

Mang this is an old thread,
KenSteele
Mantis and
RIP RED-CL...

My first was the Sprint Qualcolm big brick with a dial on the side circa 1999.
Then upgraded to the Nokia 6100. That phone had so much aftermarket support it was rediculous! Great phone too.

Back in those days you could buy phones from circuit city with an extended service plan. Then whenever a new phone came out you could just go in and switch yours out, no questions asked... Those were the days!

Some old Samsung flip phone with Sprint. Right before color screens became the big thing. I was solid. Took a fall down three stories onto rocks, battery popped out. Put it back in and it started right up with no issues.

First one was a Nokia 5160 when they first came out.

Upgraded to a Nokia 8210 in Charcoal Grey.

From there I went to a Siemens S46 (it had GSM and TDMA, had to have a special rate plan for that.)

After it met its untimely demise one fateful afternoon leaving the movie theater (stupid door) I upgraded to a Nokia 6800. That phone was AWESOME!!! Convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I NEED a full keyboard.

Then I dropped the ball and went to a Nokia 7710....for about a week. Learned a lot about import phones and why you should avoid most of them. It lacked the 1800 Mhz band that's really needed in my area.

From there I went to a Cingular 8100 (8125 sans camera).

After doing a half a dozen warranty returns within a year for bad sliding mechanisms, they switched me out for a Palm Treo 750. Another truly awesome phone. It took a lot of abuse, and honestly probably still works fine. I unplugged it one morning and it powered off, never to power on again. I may ebay a battery just to see if it works and to have a backup incase I ever need it.

When that happened, I finally made the inevitable jump to the Blackberry Curve 8320. I wanted to wait for the Bold, but with the Palm being dead, I didn't have much of a choice. Thankfully, it died about 3 weeks before the Bold came out so I was able to trade the Curve back in.

Now, I rock the Bold. Its a great phone, does more than everything I need (I mean, really, who needs to be able to play Sudoku anywhere in the free world.) I can listen to Pandora in my car.

Oh, and I should probably mention that I've been with AT&T the whole time, and they've been nothing but outstanding.

I did have a Nextel i836 for work for a while. Didn't like having 2 phones though. It got old real quick. It did however fall off the clip one day while I was getting out of the truck. Fell into a puddle and got run over by a Buick and worked just fine. Outside display was destroyed, but you can live without that.
