Verizon to increase txt message rates

Apparantly Verizon will be raising their text message rates to $0.15 per txt, from $0.10. It sounds like this only applies to customers without a messaging package. This may constitue a material change in contract, which will allow users to leave their contracts early without paying the early termination fee.

Verizon defintely needs to offer better messaging plans. $10 bucks for 500 messages and unlimited in doesnt really cut it for $10. I think most of my friends pay $10 (some $15) for unlimited messages period. Verizon doesn't even offer unlimited as far as I know.

How long until they get rid of the early termination fee altogether? That currently is what holding back real competition. That's why everyone charges out the ass for all these nice extra features because they can, cause if you don't like it you can't go somewhere else without paying out the ass to do so. So once you sign up you're trapped for x year(s) and you can't really do anything about it. If they got rid of the early termination fee and you can now keep your phone and # you could jump to another carrier that offered better prices, and then you'd see prices start to drop real fast and you wouldn't have ridiculous phone bills and thing would be alot more reasonable!! /rant

Great, hopefully that will be around the time Cingular puts out the iphone. Verizon has alittle better coverage, but I hate everything about them. And I have the unlimited in text & 500 out of network. I always go over by like 50 messages. I hate Verizon!

So then increase your plan by $5 to get 1,000 out of network

Yeah, but if I can get out of a contract with a provider I don't like, why not. And $5 here and $5 there, and before you know it your paying $145 a month for a cell phone

I was trying to search for an old Cingular bill, where i had UNLIMITED FREE text messaging. This was until 2003. I peaked a tad over 1000 messages once I remember. $0.00

Make up a problem with your current phone, call quality, frequent calls dropped, whatever. Take it to service, wait a week or two, go back with same issue. Have them replace the phone with the same type of phone. Rinse and repeat, in a few months you'll have enough service "issues" to request an upgrade for a loyal customer.

It worked for me.

I was able to cancel my Verizon contract with the text with no ETF and get my PDA phone Treo 750 and move to Cingular. cingular seems to have a better signal everywhere I have been over Verizon in my area so far.

not likely to happen... phone companies would be putting themselves in a bad position... there are some companies that offer no contract though... such as metro pcs.... they however require you to pay full price for a phone... so that phone that you otherwise would have got for free on a contract, mind end up costing you $250 instead....

For me, I'm on a Family Plan with 2 lines (Never get a girlfriend on the other line, that won't pay. ) And the onlything that's not making my bill even more crazy is the fact that we have unlimited texting for $10 from T-Bag-Mobile. But that's only 'cause she has a SideKick2.
