Verizon and Alltel

I know that Verizon and Alltel are in bed with each other - if i'm on Verizon's digital network i get all the features as if i'm on Alltel's for no extra charge, etc.

What i'm wondering is if I can use a Verizon phone on the Alltel network? Their rates are alot cheaper, and they have more phones that i like.

The thing is, only Alltel services where i go to school - well so does cellular one although they don't cover my home area. I'm wondering if there might be some possible crossover here? Or am i screwed?
