do you mean, can you sync the 650 with a computer that is running Windows Me?

according to palmOne,

http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/noversion.html

what kind of computer are you running? PII? PIII? RAM?

Thanks!

My special needs computer will either get a big brother soon or an upgrade to XP...who knows, it might not even be able to handle the strain...LOL

This is what I get for going to med school and being poor for years at a time!

BTW...it is a PIII...can I install XP on it?

if its 450MHz or more and has at least 128MB of RAM - sure you can install XP on it... I tend to think those are the bare requirements for effective use of XP... if you don't have 128MB RAM, it shouldn't cost too much to upgrade to it, I don't think... of course it may be hard to find RAM for an older computer such as yours, but I haven't really looked lately.

450Mhz and 128MB of RAM will be painful to run XP on. Even a 2Ghz P4 will run XP like shit with 128MB. See if you can get the RAM up around 512MB and turn off XP's eye candy and you'll have a much more usable computer than what you have now with ME.

^^^ not painful at all - totally usable. I have a system just like this and it runs XP fine. I think I had to turn off some of the visual stuff for best performance, but he just wants to install the Palm software so I don't think that's a big trade-off.

what mobo and hard drive did you have? those may have been the limiting factors - especially the hard drive.

Maybe you're just more patient than me. I work on PCs for a living and see a ton of machines. XP on 128MB sucks, even with faster CPU. Bumping the RAM up to just 256 helps tremendously in boot up times and the amount of time the disk spends paging. My machine is 3.5 years old so its not like I'm spoiled by having a super fast computer at home. But it runs rings around newer computers with faster CPUs that only have 128MB of RAM with XP. I guess if you don't care how long it takes to boot up, don't run any tray applets, and only play solitare, 128MB is OK but anything beyond that and you'll spend more time paging than working.
