Tmobile OTA question

Does anybody know if Tmobile ever stops pushing OTA android upgrades?

I've got a MyTouch3g (stock, not rooted) that I'm thinking about giving to my mom. It came with Cupcake, and quickly received Donut. The upgrade to Froyo killed it. I just upgraded at that point and tossed this in the drawer. I found it the other day and did a factory reset on it that has dropped it back to Donut. I played with it a bit but shut it off before it received another ota to Froyo. Does anybody know if Tmobile stops pushing ota updates and takes them off the server android checks?

If you're rooted there is a way to disable the OTA update:

I do agree on you going back to Donut. On my HTC Ion (aka Google Dev version of MT3G), I also went back to DWang's 1.17.1 Donut ROM and it flies with that. It just couldn't handle the Froyo update and I didn't even bother trying out the ICS and JB alphas. Lol.

I used to have a myTouch 4G and I never got any OTA updates.

Like Whiskers said, burn it. Get your mom a new phone.

It still works great on Donut. There's no reason to buy anything new. She elderly and heavily medicated...she loses stuff...drops stuff...and is generally about as reliable as am 8 year old. Just as a parent wouldn't give their 8 year old a new GS3 or iphone 5 I won't give her anything nice until she proves she's up to the task of having something nice.

There is a difference between giving something nice compared to something that is so outdated that it looses its use.

Yeah, she's not going to surf the net or text. Just phone calls. This is fine so long as it stays on Donut.

Besides, you said to kill it with fire...I'm doing one worse by giving it to her.

As old as the phone is, it actually does work very well with Donut installed. I know it sounds crazy but I do play with mine once in a while. It was unusable with Froyo and Eclair but on Donut it shines and especially with DWang's ROM and the Dark Star Theme. Yes it doesn't get all the latest apps but it works fine as a barebones phone. The only thing not working well on mine is the battery but its not like I use it as a daily any way.
