Thinking of buying Samsung DLP HDTV (HL-P5063W)

What do you experts think? Best buy has them now for $2599 or for $2399 open item (if one is found).

I was thinking of getting the HLP5085W model but I could not see a difference in picture quality in the store. Unless if best buy was not running what it should in oder for it to show a difference.

Wife says BestBuy, 10% off, any item, coupons arrived at home today. So that's $2340 plus tax.

Plus that is $100 in reward dollars, so total with tax will be $2415 (taking 100 off due to reward dollars). Plus whatever no interest financing they do.

Buying from mpsuperstore.com it will be $1969.95 + ground ship of $199.95 = total $2169.90 no financing available (not that I need it). So I am wondering...

I just got my Mitsubishi DLP delivered from Best Buy on Sunday. I would highly recomend you look at the WD-52525

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....6&type=product

It was $2699 plus free delivery before the Super Bowl plus 36 months no intrest. And we have the 5% rewards program. So I had to pull the trigger.

The Samsung would likely have been my second choice though...

gav: No.. I own a Sony.

BUT... I would buy a Samsung. They are top of the line when it comes to DLP... PLUS... their pretty.

Mitsubishi is compareable technology wise but their simply FUGLY. I would never buy one just cuz their so damn ugly.

The pictures and features seemed to have been the best for the money and I had spent several months lurking on the Home Theater forums and
saw that most everyone was impressed and satisfied with the unit after their purchase.

Having worked in and sold consumer electronics including big screens I realize that you can't go solely by what they have on display at the stores because they can easily do dirty tricks like adjusting the color/contrast/brightness of lower margin and out of stock units. So having seen the unit and having done research I settled on the new line Mitsubishi DLP's. My First choice was the WD-52725, but the Best Buy deal was too good to pass up.

Hmm...looks like the Mitsu uses the HD2+ DLP chip which is used by the 74 and 85 models from Samsung which are way more expensive. Maybe this is the better TV on paper, since it even provides 2 extra inches of viewable pleaseure, but does it look any better, or even the same as the 63 line from Samsung? I will have to check it out in the store next.

This is the 85 series from Samsung at 50 inches. I would buy this if the price was the same as that of the Mitsu's. It's like 3200 or so at best buy but I only see benefits on paper on this TV.

ALso Soopa, this thing looks great mostly due to the stand which is another $300+ and in my opinion not convenient. I mean where am I gonna put all the rest of the gear?

but where do the legs connect? And do they just sit on top of something or do they grab on the TV somehow?

I have all my gear in a stand-alone unit anyway... so wouldn't be an issue for me.

I wouldn't like having all my shit on the floor under the tv...

Their tacky on the bottom... so they cling to the tv.

They adjust at any angle... their on like a ball joint...

so theyll rest on damn near any tv (the back of my tv is very sloped)

works surprisingly well for something so simple and cheap

the 63 has the HD3 chip while the 85 has the HD2+ chip

the 63 produces a more film like picture where the 85 is more of a pixel picture

Correct. And the HD2+ chips is better than the HD3 chip.

The Mitsu has the HD2+ chip.
