Tell me more about MoCA
i hate my wireless N network, always drops off and is generally slow as hell. performance was fine when i was wired, but when i switched to cable I had to relocate the router to my living room downstairs and switched to a N network.
i was thinking of a powerline adaptor, but i heard of issues if say the router is on a different circuit than the plug where you put the other adapter. also plugging in some networking device into an electrical outlet and then into my devices just scares me.
basically ill be hooking up my TV, TiVo, PS3, Apple TV and PC onto it.
only thing odd is that it says it supports up to 270Mbit/s but only includes a 10/100 ethernet port
kind of defeats the purpose of the speed.
unless there is a model of this MoCA adapters with a gigabit port

how many sqft is your house? You should be able to setup a N-network to cover the whole thing without issues. Your router may on be able to broadcast in one mode so if a G computer hops on the network the whole thing switches down to G for all computers. At my parents place which was 4500sqft I could cover the whole house with 1 router that was in a far off corner, which leads me to believe your issues are arising from the particular router you have and how it's configured.
Are you running 2.4GHZ N? 5GHZ? Dual band?
I have two fourth gen airport extremes in my house and I get coverage 300 feet outside my house and down the street on my iPhone. So as mentioned above, I am leaning towards a config issue, a shitty wireless router or a combination.
2.4GHZ, you should be able to cover quite an area and penetrate everything.

This too, as a habit I throw mine on channel 11 for some reason it 90% of the time is a free. I live in a high density condo so there's all kinds of interference around us, but I've had no issues on my 2.4ghz G network.
Look into Buffalo routers, cheap and strongest range allowed and custom firmware.... Covers 5,000 sq feet no problem. I use it in one of my concrete warehouse.
(Or you can always just setup an access point to extend the range of your current router)

Wireless in general has always been unstable for me. No matter where, what router and what device I've used it at.
I current have the previous gen AirPort Extreme base station running in dual channel iirc 2.4 and 5ghz

you need to look at your configuration then. Do you have any cordless phones in the house? I bet your losing packets left right and center with interference. is your computer running lion? open wifi-diagnostics are start looking at what's happening around you.

I do, I have one of the newer Panasonic ones at 1.9ghz.
Does not cut out when on the phone.
All my computers are on wireless N. only device not N is my ps3 but that is never turned on anymore.
The one Mac we have us on mountain lion and my PC win 7
Btw I've had same problem back when I had AT&T DSL and now I have Comcast xfinity Internet. Also had the same issues with my older linksys wireless G router. Wired networking was flawless, so maybe i do live in a faraday cage

^On your TouchPad, install an app called Wifi Analyzer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...YW5hbHl6ZXIiXQ..
It'll scan your area for all SSIDs and the channels they're using. It can recommend what better channel to use and how strong your WiFi signal is. You can probably use it to help minimize interference as well by moving your router around and checking the signal strength with the app.

in your case you are getting about 500KB/s... (4mbps)... yikes
