Technology is getting Amazing/Scary
Only works well on really LARGE "notice" type signs.
...and the translations are "chinglish" (direct) non usable translations.....but perhaps enough to give one the general meaning.

The other think that I don't care for when I tried it out is that you have to have a VERY VERY steady hand.......any slight movement of the "sign" or your iPhone, and the app tries to "rethink" and sort a new word.
I think version 2.0 maybe better......for 5 bucks I would not pay for it.

Keep in mind this is still very new technology, my excitement is when later versions of this software are out, and what other similar types of technology and apps will be spawned from this
By next year I bet it will be 10x more amazing and accurate

Oh, and I bet by next year this will be called "Google Language Lens" or something similar and quirky.
These people will be rich once Google buys them. It's inevitable.

Seems worth it to me, hopefully they'll support updates for free instead of making you buy an all-new version. If a sign said "do not drink the water here" in Spanish, all I really know is agua. I may be dying of thirst for whatever reason and there may be a spigot a few yards away.
Like some of you said this is a promising technology. Remember when computers and the internet were first invented? What was it, 64MB of RAM and 14.4k?

this is pretty neat. it recognizes words, translates, and puts new words in similar look/format of the original image..
i don't see the first 2 being that difficult to do, but how do they do the last one? that's pretty amazing that they can do it on the fly, in real time.

Uh no
My First internet capable PC was an IBM ps/2
24MHZ Processor
128k RAM
9600 Baud Modem
No Hard Drive.
I had to load DOS via Floppy disks on each boot up.
Then pop in my Compuserve Text Based Internet Service via floppy disk as well.
Also connecting to Local BBS boards was funny. Had a hard time remembering all the phone numbers

The frustration of an assembly-language load off of the audio cassette failing because the volume wasn't just right was unspeakable.
I spent hours playing this stupid game.

I knew from the title that this was going to be about word lens! yeah I picked it up as soon as I saw it this morning. I was just fucking with it a little bit ago. <s>It sucks it doesn't work in landscape mode.</s> It doesn't work as well as it does in the video, it seems a little buggy but yeah it's really cool!
