Technical Laptop question....
Technical Laptop question....
I recently got my Dell Inspiron Laptop in March. More recently, I got a Canon Scanner (Canoscan LiDE 50). The beauty of the scanner is that it's very compact, not to mention the USB-only cord plugs it to the computer AND powers the scanner, reducing the amount of wires for my laptop. Being that I now have my external mouse taking up one cable, my printer taking up the other, I ran out of USB ports behind the laptop. To cure that, I went with a Lynksys USB Hub to add 4 ports from one. It does require a power cord if I plan to use it to power some hardware, but because the scanner is the only one that would rely on power, I plug it directly behind the laptop, and switch the mouse and printer into the hub.
My problem is, the USB for the scanner is 2.0, while my relatively new laptop is 1.1. Is there a way for me to upgrade the USB on my laptop to 2.0 so I can fully utilize the speed and power of the scanner? It still operates fine, but at a slower speed due to the 1.1 plug behind the laptop and the 2.0 capability of the scanner..Help?

Not unless there is such a thing as a pcmcia to usb 2.0 card, then your answer is no.

Just having fun, Ed...
Ed, i believe there is a usb 2.0 pcmcia card Doesnt your laptop have a port for a ps/2 mouse and keyboard? if your mouse is only usb, then you can get a usb to ps/2 conerter and free up a usb port. Also if you have blue tooth, you can buy a bluetooth enabled mouse and keyboard and not have to worry about any wires. Its fully wireless.
Ed,
I think this is what you're looking for. Newegg is a great company to deal with if you have any problems.
