AT&T issues (why did they have to buy cingular)
Ok, having issues here with AT&T and am rapidly losing my patience with them. I had zero issues with Cingular for the first year and a half or 2 years I had them, until I decided to upgrade my phone.
So I ordered the upgrade, along with adding free text and free internet ($40 a month package). I did this via their website.
Now for some reason, I was signed up for a NEW number and not an upgrade.
I did not realize this until I received a confirmation email with a new number and new account. I called support and was told I had to sign up for the upgrade again, and pay again,
and then send back the first phone when I get it and receive a credit
So I received the first phone and I called and had them activate the first phone I received with my excisting phone number on the upgrade phone. (first guy I talked to when I realized they signed me up for a new line said I couldn't do this). Only thing I had to do was go to the local store and get a new sim card. Other then that, it was setup and I was up and running.
So I asked if I could take the second phone back to a local store, I was told I could not take the phone to a local store, that I had to ship it, and would
then be reimbursed for the shipping fees. I was in the process of moving throughout all of this, so I did not get
to send it back immediately.
So then I received a call from at&t asking if I was sending the phone back. I asked this person if I could take it to a store, expecting him to say no since I was told this before. He said I could, but it had to be a corporate store.
I asked him if the one right near my house, about 2 minutes from here, was a corporate store and he said no, I had to go to the one in Norwalk. Today I drove 15 miles to that store to be told I could not return it there cause it was a refurb phone. Was told at that store that the one near my house IS a corporate store. Only reason I wanted to take it to a store is to get a receipt of it in hand immediately. Instead I drove 30 miles for nothing.
So this is just half of the issues.
In the middle of January, I found out that I was never signed up for the free text and internet use on my phone. So I called again in the middle of January, talked to another customer support tech who added it and says he prorated it. Today I find that I was charged over $450 for internet usage on the phone. The customer service tech I talked to tonight kept spitting back dollar amounts at me that he said I was charged and then credited. I told him several times that I signed up for the free text and internet, and they did not add it. He put in a request for a credit for the charges that I have to wait 10 days for his supervisor to get back to me. I asked for his supervisor's name, he told me her name but didn't know how to spell it, didn't know her last name, would not give me her extension, or the department she works in. After ten days, if they say I have to pay a dime of this, I am contacting my state attorney general. Right now, after all their fees, my bill is at just under $700.

But of course you always have a problem with everything. Its like life just makes you a giant shitball sandwhich for lunch everyday.
You should request your name be changed to Eeyore.

You think I shouldn't be upset that this company completely fucked up my order and sent me two phones, charged me twice, setup a new number, and now is billing me in excess of $500 for services I am supposed to be getting free under the plan I signed up for?

Sure be upset, like that's any different then usual, you always seem to get the short end of the stick. always.
sour grapes dude.
Actually AT&T did not buy Cingular, SBC bought AT&T, and for historical value kept the name AT&T.
Cingular is now AT&T Mobility. If you remember, Cingular bought out AT&T Wireless a few years back, but this time since the parent company [SBC] bought AT&T they [Cingular] took the name change.
All corporate matters continue to use all uppercase "AT&T", while public postings/commercials use lowercase "at&t" because it's comes off as something newer/fresh

I could be wrong if it's a market specific promotion, but usually data/text packages are the same nationwide...usually only the phone prices vary from region to region...What part of the country do you live in?

Also, Timmahh explained the at&t/cingular correctly. So technically cingular/SBC bought AT&T(the global company). They just kept the at&t name to be a more global recognized company. ex. If you went over to Europe or Asia they would have no idea what Cingular was unless you explained to them...now by saying at&t...you get the idea
If you have an at&t corporate store near you I would go there to try and get them to help you resolve it. They have access to your bill, plan, and package. They are there for customer service as well as sales.
Sometimes phone customer service doesn't cut it with any company...
Good luck with that...let us know how that turns out...
