I never used an Apple product in my life and most likely never need too.

 

If your company still uses BB, it must be behind the curve. I work in the health field industry and 3/4 doctors, sales reps, consultants, coworkers, even my cleaning lady uses either an iphone or a smart phone from samsung, htc, LG, etc....
The other day our regional sales rep came in with a gorgeous ipad 2 and showed us some slides. She said her company is employing all employees to carry one for ease of presentations. I gave her a big thumbs up, as it looks awesome! BB was yesterday's business phone; today, it's just another brick!

What's the point of a joke if it's just for your own amusement? If no one is laughing, it's not a joke!

 

You tell me. I work for one of the largest organizations in Canada here and the one prior was the world's largest heavy-equipment dealership. All used Blackberries. In most conferences I attend, Blackberries...

And I'm not disputing or praising the Blackberry here. Just pointing out that they are standard-issued. Please don't take it as me belittling Apple again.

Im in IT and damn near everyone Ive seen uses a BB. No Android, no iPhone.

 

every manager and person in I.T. with the state of CA all have BB's no one uses Iphones and Androids over here. BB is more of the email based phone hence why we use it, in my department.

 

I'm a SysAdmin. I use an iPhone and so do all on my minions. My CTO had a BB that was 4 years old and I threw it out of the window and promptly walked across the street to the Apple store for his new 4[S]. RIM failed. (and they don't even know how it happened)

I find very little about my Blackberry 9930 phone to be "yesterday".

Feel free to disagree with some facts.

 

It's not that glamorous...take it from a guy in the industry.

 

I work in IT. I carry a BB and our standard issue is a BB. Now I live in Waterloo, the home of the Blackberry so the area may not be typical but BBs are more common for corporate use than iPhone/Android.

Every exec that works for us that decided they wanted an iPhone came back in less than 2 weeks and threw it on the phone administrators desk and said give me my BB back.

Which brings me to another totally off-topic item. Every BB torch user I ever see flips open the keyboard to type and never uses the onscreen keyboard - some people just aren't ready for onscreen keyboard.

 

The executive/management demographic is generally not used to the touchscreen interface.

 

I'd bet bb has the most market share in its home country of Canada, just like Nokia is the bomb in Finland but has almost zero market share in the US

 

Annnnd do you want to bet what the market share is in Asia for cellphones...?

 

What facts do I need to give...BB is a dying breed!

 

I can 2nd that....I have 2 brothers who are IT people and they hate it bec. with every new OS or program, they have to be certified by passing exams or they will fall behind and most likely lose their jobs to people who are up to date! The notion of working in the IT industry may be cool due to status, money or whatever, but from 2nd hand experience, it's not glamorous.

 

^ I love IT, money, perks, knowledge... if you are the type of IT who is just waiting the 9-5 to pass, you are in the wrong field. I always learn new things for myself, thus the field, the moment you stop learning you cease to live - you begin to just exist.

 

I like to learn new shit, I'm always talking to the guys' over in our IT department seems like an interesting job.

 

It isn't a matter of being used to the touchscreen, there is something to be said of having a physical keyboard where you get the tactile feedback which allows you to type faster and more accurately.

Personally, if I could have an iPhone that costs more, but included a physical keyboard, I'd buy it.

 

It's not though. Its market share is decreasing due to increased Android and iPhone sales to the general public.

As a business phone, it is unbeatable.

Show me a phone that has a keyboard anywhere close in quality and typing speed.

Show me a phone that'll last two solid days on a battery while delivering your emails instantly and encrypted.

Show me a phone that can be administered remotely and on a grand scale like a Blackberry.

There aren't many. Blackberries are not perfect by any means but for their intended audience, they haven't been beaten.

What's so about encrypted corporate email?

 

Blackberry is dying because of their failure to adapt and grow as a business. They have solid infrastructure, but they refused to realize that the market is heading a different direction and that multi-functional, application purposed devices were the way of the future. They stuck with their corporate intentions and now less people want their devices.

Also, they put no resources into their hardware beyond the keyboard. When was the last time you saw a BB touting it's 1.5 ghz dual core processor, or 330ppi HD screen? They care about and market to corporate/old men only think it's the only option.

 

Stuck with a BB for work. Hate it. Trouble is I can't get i-phone until this BB breaks.

287 dpi is plenty for me and 1.2 ghz is never too slow

I use it for EMAIL, some web browsing and making actual phone calls. For extended periods of time. Not Angry Birds. I have a tablet for that.

As long as they stick to their core strengths, they'll have a market.

Apple has innovated where? nowhere they are excellent at taking crap and packaging it so that people will buy it.. they could come out with an iTurd and people would buy it at $500...why becuase of marketing.....

 

And some onscreen keyboards just aren't ready for people. The BB touchscreen just flat blows. I can type on an iPhone. I can type on an Android touchscreen. I can't type for beans on my Storm II touchscreen, even rotated to landscape so that the keys are bigger.

 

They will have a market, just a much smaller one. I'm not one of BB haters, they do an amazing job with enterprise, but the problem is the common user wants Angry Birds and they didn't what they needed to so that exisisting BB users didn't have to switch to anther device to get it.

My boss dropped hers under her SUV after they launched the new bold.

Thing is that despite all of the BB haters out there I cannot think of any device available today that I would prefer instead of my Bold 9780. It does what I need it to. Sure it doesn't do the things I don't need it to but why should that matter.

I have never been stuck in a business meeting muttering to myself "I wish my blackberry had autotune" or "I wish this phone had an inclinometer" or "I wish my chat balloons looked like a baby whale". I have though muttered to myself "I am glad that if I lost this thing I can have it wiped with a simple click of a button"

There were always times when people didn't need things. Then those things became common and all of a sudden people need them. Smartphones in general are an example of this.

BB is very capable, but it does not browse the web like my phone can, it does not have the apps or developer support that my phone has, it doesn't take as good of a picture as my phone. So why not just get a device that does these things better?

 

Blackberry may be behind the curve in terms of gadget coolness/utility, but they are still very much persistent, maybe even dominant in most corporate settings. In my field, most large and mega Law Firms still issue BlackBerrys as work phones, mainly because their push notification system and BB messenger service were so dominant at the turn of the century.

Literally, all of my graduating peers who are working at Latham & Watkins, Paul Hastings, etc will usually be glued to their Blackberrys.

And many lawyers still use the old standard WordPerfect instead of Word - i.e. even though MS Word has been superior for quite sometime, many in the legal field still haven't switched... it'll likely be the same with Blackberrys in those large firm/corporate environments.

And Web-browsing on a phone, while convenient and nice in emergency/bored situations, isn't 100% necessary for work functions... its actually pretty effing annoying trying to look up case laws on a small 4-5 inch screen; I believe that most of the higher ups in corporate settings are now getting 3g/4g tablets for that purpose.

 

I'm not speaking for the whole US Army but my unit just issued out thousands of BB's to key leaders.
