my treo has the option to disable the touchscreen. gonna throw out a wild guess kuz yours may too... go to "preferences," find "keyguard" if its listed, and the option to disable the touchscreen when on a call could be checked. good luck.

Yup, the sleep button is the power button. Press and hold will turn it off. While a quick press will put the phone to sleep. But during a phone convo, the button just turns the screen off.
