Sick and Tired of Sprint and considering Cingular/AT&T

I personally am sick and tired of the runaround and lack of information that Sprint provides so I started looking around to other companies. I share my minutes with 3 other phones so I need a family plan. Cingular not only has a nationwide family plan with more minutes than Sprint, but they are also $20 a month cheaper and I can roillover my unused minutes. So, it looks like I am going to jump from the Sprint ship and switch. Here is the only thing stopping me right now; I spent a good 30 minutes on the phone with their Customer Service and he checked locations of cell towers in relation to where the phones will be. He actually gave me the intertsections of where they are located. But then he suggested I wait till November. He said AT&T and Cingular are merging and they will be coming out with about 20 new phones to accomodate the new sim card that will be able to hold twice as much memory as the old sim card.

Does anyone else know anything about this? He said the new sim card will include all of the Cingular as well as the AT&T cell tower info for much better performance. So, is it worth the wait or now? They have a great little BT phone.....SE T637! Anyone happy with this phone?

Don't know anything about the merger details but I can tell you that I switched from Sprint to Cingular about 2 months ago and haven't looked back. I also have the 637 and highly recommend it if you need a phone right away, but if the rumor about the 20 new phones is true you might want to wait until they come out.

Dude...check out Verizon, I've had it back when it used to be Bell Atlantic Mobile, made a bunch of calls on 9/11, and the bluetooth Motorola, using HFL is effing awesome. You can use the mobile to mobile feature for free if you call Verizon to Verizon, I think they are 110% above the rest of the pack

I know Verizon is supposed to be the biggest. I had them years ago and had extremely poor coverage at home to the point that we could not use it. It is also $20 a month more ($240 a year). I haven't ruled it out yet though. Cingular gives you a free 15 day trial.

VZ will be the biggest until Cingular purchases ATT which is reported to close this month.

Sprint to Cingular . . .

I too contemplated this and when I got my 05 TL, I switched. One because I was upset with the problems I had with Sprint, and two because I wanted to use my car's every feature (especially the Bluetooth).

Cingular purchased AT&T earlier this year and the merger will be complete in January 2005. This will expand the coverage immensely. Any phone you have with either carrier will work with the new coverage, so no need to upgrade.

As for the phone choice, I have the T637, which is amazing. I'm not a big fan of the candybar style phones (I'm used to the flip style), but I got used to the new style. And it's worked flawlessly with my TL (knock on wood). Some people have commented that there is a "PHONE" issue, but I haven't experienced this. I spoke with a Motorola rep at Cingular the other week and he told me that within the next 6 weeks, Moto will release the V551 (updated V400/V600), the A630 (horizontal flip style phone with QWERTY keyboard) and the RAZR (micro thin flip). These may be worth switching for alone. However, my dealer has told me that they have contacted the Bluetooth organization and have said that the Motorola phones are not completely Bluetooth compliant so some issues may arise.

My 2 cents . . .

i siwtched 2 weeks ago and i am glad i did it. i was on some old plan that i milked sprint for more minutes for almost 5 years. but i couldn't wait for them to release a bluetooth phone any longer. i got my TL in march and sprint has only had one bluetooth phone since then. they are suppose to come out with the LG 325 phone this month but who knows. also the phone is 249 which i didn't really want to pay. i got theSE T637 from ATT for 30 bucks off the website. i know if you were to get this off amazon or some other cellular phone site you can actually make money off switching and activating a new plan. i didn't do my research when i was getting it but no worries i am happy with the service so far and the bluetooth rocks(especially in 6MT). i never got reception with sprint in my basement(where the computer is) but now i get 5 bars and the reception is very clear. even tho the cingular and ATT buyout is not complete the phones can communicate across the cell towers. ATT does not charge roaming fees when using another providers tower. the SE T637 can operate at both 850 and 900 Mhz which will be able to connect with both ATT and cingular's towers. just dump sprint you won't regret it.

In the New Jersey area, I heard Verizon is a good way to go. T-Mobile has always been my favorite followed by Cingular.
