Selling my laptop...how to reformat?

Could you guys help me? I'm selling my laptop on Ebay and I'd like to know what I need to do to wipe out my HD. I will be reformatting the HD when I figure out how, but is there also a program that wipes out sensitive information so that it cannot be retrieved with another file recovery program?

While I'm at it, how do I reformat the HD? Do I simply run the application/driver CDs that came with the laptop? Sorry, I'm a noob with computers.

You can probably go into the BIOS and do what's called a "Low-Level Format" or "Surface Format". It erases everything.

If you're selling your laptop, just put in the system recovery CD and follow the instructions for the full disk format and restore. that's it.
