A movie.

I have always written and I have always had these ideas in my head. I have a friend down in Florida who did some acting. And we have been talking about maybe writing a script together. A coming of age story about 3 friends who grew up together in Jamaica and then moved to America.

I was looking online and every site that has tips on script writing is also pushing its own script writing software. Just wondering if there was anybody out there who could give me educated opinion.

If you already have Word, I doubt it's worth buying something else. Just setup your formatting styles and use them.

I just looked at that software. Isn't that geared to just polishing up a script? If you are creative and have good ideas why not just type it in Word or NOTEPAD?

Huge hits were written on the old typewriter...in fact some of the sorriest scripts were probably written with these software packages. Having style but no substance is your worse enemy.

Just like your work resume...nice bond paper, perfect font, perfect style...looks good but no practical work experience. Whereas as dirty fax copy comes into my office but it has the great credentials...its worth a second look. just my

Man, I am such a dork. I was thinking of the technical software for scripting...ie. Boston Workstation...I'm going to go back into my closet now where I can be more of a geek...

I'm not in the entertainment industry, but did stay at a Holi....wait.... I did go to and work at an art school with film and TV departments. You can, of course, use any word processor to write a script. From what I recall, however, dedicated script writing software makes the process much more flexible and efficient. You can organize and sort things by character, scene, conversation, etc... I think the dedicated packages even have mechanisms for consistency checking within the script. Things that you normally can't do in a word processor without some sort of custom VBA coding.

BTW- Here's a link to the Final Draft software at B&H.

Had I been home to see this post earlier this is what I would have said.

Final Draft is the industry standard for screenwriting software.
