Razor V3

Cingular just released the new Razor phone today..at a whopping $599.00 list, or $499.00 with a new two year contract. Has anyone tried the Razor with the bluetooth system in the TL. It's one cool looking phone, but I'm reluctant to fork over that much money unless the phone works flawlessly with my TL. Currently, I've got a V-600 with ATT, and I'm not happy with their coverage, and with certain towers the reception is horrible. I've also tried a SE 610, and wasn't happy with that phone either. I'd like to try the Razor, but I'd like to hear comments from others who've tried it with the TL. Any comments would be appreciated.

I am also very interested in the Razor...but not willing to spend so much without any feedback from those who have experienced it with the TL.

It would really be helpful for others to share their experiences with the TL and the RAZOR.

that phone is pretty cool looking, very thin. one of those you really dont need a belt clip for it is that thin, but looks preety big (tall and wide wise)

it would have to be one heeluva bluetooth phone for me to shell out that kinda $$$

surely it wont sell to well at that price and comes down pretty quick

http://www.myworldphone.com has GSM phones at great prices. Right now, the Razor is still at $739.00 but it's unlocked and will work on any network. Their prices go down pretty quick, so it's a good site to keep an eye on.

I tried a Razor today at a Cingular Store. It belonged to the manager so I wasn't able to pair it to my TL. The phone was awesome, and had much better reception than the V-600 I had with me at the time. Also, the phone has a great "feel" and the size is perfect for my hand..not to big..not too small. The one thing I noticed was the reception didn't cut in and out as much as my V-600 does. The person on the other end of the call didn't notice much difference between the quality of my voice between the two phones, but I noticed a huge difference on the receive end of the call. The phone is due to be released to the general public on 11/15 for $499 with a 2 year contract. I've heard the Razor is just a V-600 in a pretty case, but my comparison didn't support that finding. One thing that may have been a factor was the Razor was on the Cingular network, and my V-600 was using ATT. The signal strength was equal on both phones at the time I made the comparison.

That seems to be a much better deal. Unless I am missing something in the fine print. The people at our local Cingular store had NO CLUE about this phone even!

I wonder if I accidently lose my V600, will they replace it w/the Razor, since I have insurance. Hmmmmm But I'm reluctant to call customer service to ask if the Razor is the replacement model, for they may catch on to my scheme. Anybody want to try?

Hmm... Could they replace it with a better phone? I'm sure they would just give you a refurbed V600.... What you're describing is called fraud.

I've heard the battery life for the Razr is dismal. Until battery technology catches up, there will be tradeoffs. Leave the BT on all the time with the Razr and you'll likely need to charge several times daily. Remember the "brick" cellphones from the late 80's that had a whopping 2 hours of standby?

The Razr will likely lack some of the MID features similar to the other Moto phones.

IMHO the Sony Erricson has nothing going for it. I tried one for several months before I got a V-600. Nothing about this phone excited me...it was too small..the buttons hard to use, and reception wasn't that great. The one feature I liked was the display on the MID had more information than Moto provides, but the phone was just a pain in the a** to use. I can't stand locking the keypad everytime I put the phone in my pocket, it's just another cheap plastic phone. The thing I like about most Moto phones is that they're just more comfortable to use and talk on. The Razor seems to be the best built, and most comfortable phone I've tried so far. The "hand feel" is awesome, and it's very comfortable to talk on.

...Motorola is an up and coming manufacturer...they've been in the industry longer than Sony Ericsson but for some reason they can't make their UI more intuitive. Sony Ericsson does everything I need. The phone you probably used was the T610/T616. Don't base your judgement on just a single phone. If I did do that, Motorola would be the worst company in the world with a POS candy bar phone I tested awhile back. Try using an S700i, K700i, P910i/a, or even a V800. Sony Ericsson has a wider range of phones and the new phones coming will put everything to shame. Motorola still has some legwork but they're getting there. Next year it'll be a good battle between Sony Ericsson and Motorola.

Great phone. It probably won't be a Verizon phone for awhile, though.

I've never tried any of the phones you mentioned, but do they have the subtle hand feel and voice quality of the Razor? When I use a cellphone...I tend to be long winded and the "feel" and quality of sound mean more to me than nonsense features like a camera or MP-3 ringtones. I use a cellphone to talk......and only talk...so the thing I'm most concerned about is not having calls drop or cut out, and the ergonomics and "feel" of the phone while I'm talking. That's why I don't like the candybar phones...they're just uncomfortable to use for me. I'm still looking for the perfect cellphone...and I haven't found it yet. So far...the Razor wins for "feel" and sound quality..but dropped calls are something else I've yet to address.

Hmm...I think you will like the RAZR V3 or even the Sony Ericsson S710a when it comes out...Cingular said the phone should be out this month but some also said don't expect it until beginning of 05.

Well, after saying I'd never pay $600 for the v3, I just bought one.

I still can't believe I paid so much for a phone, but I haven't been this excited about a cell phone since I got my first one back in the early 90s.

It paired up with the TL without any problems and the reception is excellent, certainly better than my old v525. I haven't had it long enough to comment about the battery or other features, and I haven't paired it with my bluetooth headset yet, but I am very pleased thus far.

Several days ago I went to the Cingular store and purchased a Razor. The clerk tried to "migrate" my ATT number over to Cingular, but kept getting a server error code #500. This has been going now for 4 days, and I'm getting fed up with Cingular. If they can't merge ATT and Cingular numbers in that much time, they should have worked out the bugs in their system before offering the service to the general public. Cell phone companies have to be the worst business in the world for customer satisfaction and service. It's almost impossible to get any help on the phone, they never answer Email's, and just don't care about you're problems when and if you ever get to talk to a human. If other business's treated customers like cell phone companies, they would never stay in business. This industry should be ashamed of itself!!...rant over.

In my experience, when you buy a phone from a Cingular store at full price, Cingular does not put a subsidy lock on the phone (i.e. it can be used on any GSM carrier which uses a frequency band supported by the phone). Do you know if that's true in your case?

More importantly, do the battery and signal strength indicators show up on your MID with the RAZR V3?

No battery signal display, but it does show signal strength, just like my old v525.

Finally got the Razor working..Cingular finally got it right. The first thing I noticed about the phone..other than the obvious...was that it would work in the basement of my parents house. Every other phone I've had....including 2 GSM phones would not work at all...and the Razor not only works in the basement, but the sound quality is great. Their home is in a very bad area, and has an airport nearby, so there is probably a lot of RF signal saturation that may or may not be causing the problem. My last two GSM phones would cut in and out even with a good signal in their house....and I had to go outside to make a good call...the Razor works perfectly even in the basement. The other two phones I've tried included a V-600, and a Sony Erricson 610. This phone rocks!!!!!....btw..it paired instantly with the TL, but does not display battery strength. Mobilezen....is there a firmware or some other mod you could do to the phone to make the battery strength show up in the MID?
