8.1 is shit just down graded home machine to 7, 8.1 got so slow on the interweb it was unusable, litterally like 10 mins for google home page to load, while every other Wifi device was flying, its running much better now though, and having no issues with office 13 (64 bit)

even after diabling all the live tiles it was junk and its a common problem
https://www.google.com/search?q=win+...sm=93&ie=UTF-8
add that on to the fact the any program that defaulted to running in the Metro UI, gave me limited access to basic actions printing/saving etc.
glad to be done with 8 and 8.1

So if it's the greatest, how can 7 be better?
FTR, I like 7 better than XP.

from the stand point of its longevity, stabilty, there are still a ton of machines out there still running it, window/microsoft had to keep extending its updates to XP long after it really wanted to, 7 will be the next xp

I was merely commenting that if "A" is the BEST EVER, "B" cannot be better.
Geez, can't a guy start a e-fight over grammar/interweb logic anymore?

What proxies do you guys use? Until recently, reddit was unblocked... I was probably the only person or one of a few that used it. Now even rddt.tk (mirror site) doesn't work.
Sonicwall blocks every proxy I could find on google
There is so much downtime I want to stab myself.

Chromebook + hotspot and you never have to worry about being blocked or your boss tracking your surfing. Once you get past the awkwardness of having a BYOD on your desk you will be in good shape. My boss didn't give a crap.

Can you tether your cell phone to a laptop or tablet for internet connection?
#347
All of my programs are on the workstation... there is no BYOD policy here. I can go on my phone actually, just prefer to use my computer. The bosses can sneak up you easily. Just gotta be stealthy about it.
I used to bring my tablet, but that was too obvious

In all honesty, is there something you could legitimately be doing/learning that would benefit both you and the company? Learn some programming language, get network certified, etc? They might actually ALLOW you to do it on work time and it would benefit you in the long run.
Not sure what you do for a living so it's hard to suggest things, but are there any certifications that would be mutually beneficial?

I've been using Mint 16 with xfce desktop for about 6 months now and love it. Its a very beginner friendly distro and very customizable. You should consider running it from a live cd or bootable usb (grab unetbootin) and try it out before you consider installing it.

Picked up this laptop the other day http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...e.92622.0.html Its got an 2nd gen i5, bumped it up to 8GB Ram and it came with the 128GB SSD. Installed Windows 8.1, VMWare with Mavericks and Linux Mint and a USB 3.0 Expresscard all for around £320. This thing is crazy cool, love it. Its got like every port, input option and connectivity in it. Its a great IT laptop.
I first tried putting Mint in as dual boot, it installed fine but the bootloader kept failing and not booting Mint. Read a few things and then said, F it, how many times will I actually need Mint anyway. Its neat to play with, but not necessary. Mavericks and Mint in the VM work great, even the touch screen works well in both. Now to sell my Surface Pro.......

It's my understanding that Thunderbolt isn't natively supported in windows. On OS X TB ports are plug and play but when I boot to windows on my rMBP I have to have the TB connected prior to boot otherwise Windows won't see it and if you unplug it while Windows is running you're gonna have to reboot in order to get it working again.

No that's not what I'm talking about

26. Why isn't my device recognized when I plug it directly into the Thunderbolt port when running Windows 7 or 8 via Boot Camp?
Windows 7 and 8 scans and activates devices connected to the Thunderbolt port only during the startup process. If a device isn't connected when the computer starts up, Windows will not recognize the device. Restart the computer with the device connected to the port. Thunderbolt devices may also need a driver when running on Windows 7 or 8.
27. Can I plug and unplug devices (Hot Plug) into a Thunderbolt port under Windows 7 or 8 via Boot Camp?
No. To add Thunderbolt devices, shut down the computer, connect the new devices, and then boot to Windows.
30. If I eject a Thunderbolt device using the Taskbar tool or disconnect the Thunderbolt cable, can I reconnect it again without restarting?
No. A directly-connected Thunderbolt device that is removed with the Taskbar tool or by disconnecting the Thunderbolt cable will not be recognized until you restart the computer.

You guys dont know how to talk to each other. Yes, Stunna - In BC it doesnt seem to see it unless its there on boot. It used to freeze the OS if you plugged it in after, they fixed that part. Ken, other way around dude.
