Question about dropped calls and reception

I'm sure it's a combination of things but what matters more when it comes to dropped calls and cell phone reception? Is it the brand of phone (Sanyo, Motorola, Samsung, LG, etc)? Or is it the carrier (Sprint, Cingular, etc)?

I currently have a Sanyo with Sprint, and the dropped calls are frustrating me. It doesn't happen a lot, but it shouldn't happen at all. So if someone could educate me here, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, which one is the best as far as reception goes?

Thanks!

It depends on a lot of things. I won't profess to being the expert on this matter but if you could provide a few more details such as what model phone, what city, and how many times you've dropped the phone....that would be helpful?

Sanyo 8100, I think. Live in Minneapolis, not downtown, but in the suburbs. no shortage of towers anyway. And I've never dropped the phone.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing, a bunch of my friends have the motorola razr on cingular and its damn near impossible to have a conversation with them without them breaking up on the other end, is it because the antenna is inside the phone?

I have verizon in the twin cities area and its great, i get a dropped call every once and a while but its usually at around 5pm when everybodys getting off work and calling their wives and whatnot

I've found out, through numerous trials, that I can't make calls or talk on my phone in my kitchen or my office. I can only make calls from the hallway, bedroom, or living room. But I haven't tried the bathroom yet

and I thought all the stalagmites would help increase the reception

on another note, I think I've decided to just renew with sprint, maybe cut a deal for a new phone...... any objections?
