Question about apple remote desktop
Long story short I recently was in my school library and had a librarian close one of my windows (I was on youtube). I realized the bored teacher was browsing through everyones monitors looking for shit to do, which means they could also be looking over email. Now I am going to write an article on it for our schools online paper.
My question is, is there any part of that program which allows them to watch your keystrokes (IE if you are entering a password)?
Also, can a client computer (like in a school library) access another client computer, or only a staff computer has access to the client computers?
Thanks,
Mike

As far as I know, ARD does not function as a keylogger. It is the same as any other VNC application. If set up properly, each individual PC should not have access to other peers.
Why are you writing an article about it? Most schools have a ban on certain content, including e-mail and steaming video. In my old high school, you would have been revoked computer access and possibly suspended depending on what you were doing. Any teacher with the proper permissions could view student activity.

Technically they probably didn't do anything wrong, but that is not how the student body would view it. Also, it is known and accepted that students use email to access work, so they have their email open often. Also, librarians rarely (in practice) take issue with students using youtube, etc, when the library is not full. These rules are more practiced in the breech.
And I am pissed off that a librarians assistant (substitute teacher I have had before, young cocky bitch), shouted across the library "that's right, I see everything, you can't get anything by me" and proceeded to fuck with my and others computers, honestly, because she had nothing better to do. Also, if we have no expectation of privacy than we should be informed of that. I only say that because their are personal things in peoples emails, even as basic as the title, and the use of email as a means of file transfer is encouraged.

Just make sure you look through your school's rules regarding acceptable usage of technology before you go calling out the school. I would put money on there being restrictions and terms about monitoring. I would go as far as saying you have no expectation of privacy when you're using school computers and bandwidth. In that case, it doesn't matter how the student body views it, they all have agreed to it by attending the school (or rather, your parents do for you as you usually cannot sign for yourself in a high school regardless of your age) and using school-provided computers.
The reason why content such as YouTube is not permitted is because of content that could possibly be on YouTube (which is another argument in itself which I won't go into), and because of the limited resources most schools have. Hell, we used to have two cable modems to provide bandwidth a junior high and high school. Now they have dual T1 service, but it still gets slow. Imagine if everyone was on YouTube.
Yes, the aide was probably stepping over her boundaries, but that's the only thing she did wrong.
And for what it's worth, just because ARD doesn't have a keylogger doesn't mean that they aren't using one.

They allow youtube, they block all the sites they don't want us on (ie Facebook).
If I do write an article I will submit it to the schools online paper as an op-ed (paper is not officially the schools paper, deals with other issues too). This town is a bunch of ACLU ass lickers so some parents will go ape shit and try to do something. If nothing else it will cause a problem for the school.
I give you this example. Both my city's high schools have problems with theft. The other high school set up hidden cameras. Students got the ACLU involved over hidden cameras (this is the really wealthy town HS, when kids get shit stolen mommy and daddy just buy em a new one). The ACLU admitted they couldn't do shit, but now they are re-evaluating the use of the cameras. I wouldn't even be looking to do that, I just want to fuck with them.
