PC rant, I want Vista . . .

lol, there's a reason I haven't upgraded to Vista...blah!...Red Hat is a more trusted OS and out of all the times I've used it, it's never crashed.
Yet I still have XP, I don't want to let it go.

I got my Premium copy a few weeks ago...I think I'm gonna let it sit until the fall, then install Vista after SP1 is released.
Semi-related note I just saw over on Slashdot: Microsoft has announced that it will no longer sell Windows XP OEM to computer makers after 2007. It looks like it's Vista or nothing in Microsoft (retail) land starting in 2008.
Wait until more network admins start implementing Vista and find out that the damn UAC (that irritating prompt) prevents network login scripts from running without the user entering an admin password.
There is a workaround, but I believe that you will find that most just disable the feature...

I need a new lappy. Leaning toward XP and Office 2003, yet everyone that knows better says vista and the new office suite.
I know I would be more productive with the old stuff, but MS will leave me high and dry. Guess I'll go XP and pay to upgrade later. DX 10 is killing me!

Did you install the fancy GUI too? My understanding is its a resource pig.
Most reasonable thing i hear is "Wait for service pack 1"
Painfull to need a laptop right now. Thinking about a cheap one, and throw it away in a year, instead of $3,000 at three year cycles.
My office bought a cheap dell, and we spent more on third party support than the cost of the dell. Dell support had one of our guys printing checks on a wireless network to some other company in the building.

But I am running it on 3 machines at work, and when I do my next rebuild of my home machine in 6 months or so I will install Vista 64 bit.
Ok guys I have XP pro on my laptop too and I'm waiting for the free Vista Business upgrade to come in the mail anytime now. So is it a go or no go to install this Vista thing? Supposedly the thing finds the drivers you need by itself just keep on clicking. My laptop is Core 2 Duo T7200 (2GHz, 4MBL2, 667MHzFSB) with 2GB RAM.

Amen to that. I spent three days trying to format the bastard off of my machine.

If you are anything remotely close to a power user you will be crippled by "features" that prevent you from doing what you are used to. As a very simple example... If you have ever done an "ipconfig /renew"... Forget it in Vista - that is an Admin only function. So how do you renew a DHCP lease? Unplug the network and plug it back in
. Not something you do every day, but it is very indicative of what MS has broke in Vista. If all you ever want to do is run IE and Office and the occasional MS-sanctioned game, want to pay too much for a bloated OS that consumes too much hardware resources... Go for it.
Can you tell I hate Vista...

And I found out Apple's tech team is called the "Genius Bar"... on their site. They apparently consist of "Geniuses". The same "geniuses" that tried convincing a coworker that a "MAC address" is not available on PC's?? good sheit, Apple.
