notebook computer help

i need a laptop for school, and the school has a deal setup with dell. this is the laptop they reccomend.

Quinnipiac’s Fall 2005 Latitude D610

$1,625

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 750 (1.86GHz) 14.1 XGA, RADEON X300

Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, SP2, with media

512MB DDR2 400MHz SDRAM, 1 DIMM

60GB Hard Drive, 9.5MM, 5400RPM

Dell Wireless™ 1370 802.11b/g WLAN miniPCI Card

Internal 56K Modem for Dell Latitude D-Family Notebooks, Factory Install

24X CD-RW/DVD Combination Drive
comes with microsoft office, which i can get myself, and some security program. also, they give you free support on campus. im thinking this is kind of expensive. im sure i can get something better for the same price. what do you guys suggest? i wouldnt mind being able to do some gaming with it

Too expensive,

I got something a lot better for only a little more of that price when they had that sale, and they still have good deals on Dell.com, I have heard there outlet has OUTRAGEOUS Deals, cheap cheap, even though they are returns or Refurbs, they come with a pretty good warranty too

the one your school recommends is 4.6 lbs; this is almost twice as heavy. if you're ok with lugging it around go for it. any laptop with that many features is going to be heavy.
