Not Happy - iPhone 2.0 (rant alert)
Not Happy - iPhone 2.0 (rant alert)
I upgraded my 1st Gen iPhone today and am generally satisfied with the results. What I am not happy about is this stupid nanny that pops up every time you use the camera. It tells you that the camera wants to use your current location.
-Begin Rant-
Um...excuse me. Why the fuck should anybody have to know where I'm taking pictures? If the terrorists are going to take photos of their targets, surely it will be with something better than the 2MP camera in the iPHONE!!!! Sure you can turn this little tool off but it reactivates itself within 5 minutes. Totally useless. I've been told that if you tap OK more than twice it won't bother you again but, if I may repeat myself, I don't want people knowing where I take my photos. I'm not a criminal, I've done nothing wrong, so why am I being monitored like one? Additionally, if I ask Maps for my current location, it tells me Maps wants to use my current location. Well no fucking duh. I just asked it for that!
If this shit continues, I will not be buying another iPhone.
-End Rant-
Pardon the saucy language.

2.0 has effectively rendered the battery in my 1st gen iPhone useless. The battery will go from showing fully charged (or one bar down) to totally dead within a 12 hour period. And that's with no usage whatsoever on the phone during that time. No wifi enabled, no push mail enabled, nothing. Just standby.
This is nearly the same exact shit that happened to my Macbook Pro's battery after Apple issued a firmware update for it. I am not happy. We'll see what the response I get from the genius bar when I go to the Apple store tonight.

I haven't done the upgrade yet. Is this common?
What exactly will the upgrade do?

I think I'm going to keep my 1g @ 1.1.4 for a long time. I might even clone it's IMEI to match my 3g one so I can use them interchangeably on my network without getting dinged for massive data charges when using the 1g.
My 1st gen iPhone is running just fine with the 2.0 software. My battery is fine, etc etc etc.
The only time my battery dies a quick death is when I'm using a lot of apps, such as poker.
And Portland...TURN OFF THE geo tagging...its in the menus under location services.
bitch bitch bitch....maybe next time you want to do some reading before crying like a little girl who skinned her knee?
Seems like every time some skeptic has a problem with apple product they have to make some post say HEY look at ME my apple product is doing some thing BAD!!!
Bill...no idea about your battery...look up and see if there any documention on the apple.com/support area. If not take it to the genius bar, again, mine has been fine. Try rebooting?

Just poked into the support forums and there's oodles of people having battery life issues after upgrading to 2.0. I'm going to triple check I didn't miss any new settings and give it one more charge/idle cycle before hitting the genius bar. I also reset my statistics to see if the phone is doing something on the network even when I'm not actively using it.

you can use any phone on your 6gig plan, doesn't matter whether it's from your provider or not.
