new color laserjet printer

Hey guys, i'm looking for a new HP color laserjet printer that will work with a network print server. (windows 2k3)

what are you guys using in your offices? We just bought a HP Color Laserjet 2600n and its a piece of shit. You can't use it as a network printer unless you install the driver on each machine.

I want to be able to install the driver only on the 2k3 print server and use it to print from. The 2600n does not allow you to do this. I talked to HP and this is a known issue with this printer.

Thanks guys

All shared printers need the local print driver on each machine...When you install a printer on the server, you install the XP/Vista drivers, then when the client connects to it, it copies the driver.

We had one of those PoS 2600n's here as well. IIRC, the issue is actually that the only network printing it (or it's driver) can do is raw port 9100 straight to the printer. Standard Windows printer shares didn't exist in the world of the 2600n.

I have no clue what's actually being used around my office now. I was only involved in diagnosing the "problem" with the 2600n.

Does it need to be HP? Canon makes some good networkable color printers.

We have a massive imagerunner color copier that does it all. & 200+ users connected to it.

A few months ago we got a Lexmark C532n...I would consider buying one of these for myself.

Apparently $375.99 until the end of May.

Canon is now scoring the highest marks. HP has low customer satisfaction.

I recently got a Xerox phaser AIO, everybody hates it.

Sharp AR-C330 and Tektronix Phaser 780. I prefer the Tektronix print quality-wise but the Sharp prints faster and uses less ink. Sharp needs constant maintenance though.

I got an HP 1320 laser printer hooked up to my WHS (based off of Win 2k3 SBS) and haven't had any trouble printing from mac (besides a small glitch with Leopard, tiger works no problem), xp or Vista. It's not color though.

I use the hp laserjet 1320 to print out my patients' notes and it was actually recommended to me by my IT guys. After over 1.5 years the hp has been solid and is dialed in to my wireless network. That being said the workhorse for my practice is the canon imageclass mf 6530. Much higher volume capacity and copier function and handles lab requisitions and stuff like that much more confidently.

i'd say canon>hp

Give it a static IP address and place the driver files on a network share that everyone has access to. Those who need to install it can do so without you having to hit every PC...and even if you do, you don't have to shlep around a driver disk. We have an office of 200+ people, and all printing is IP...no shared printers on the server. Quick, easy, painless. Installation takes a few seconds each time.

Don't dump the whole driver disk onto the share...just the driver files for the OS's you'll need. It's also a good way to avoid HP bloatware that seems to come along with every one of their printers these days.
