Microsoft to Stop Selling XP

Microsoft originally announced over a year ago that Windows XP would be going off the market in January 2008. XP was later given a brief stay of execution, to June 30, 2008. That deadline is fast approaching, which has led to much panicking from people who aren't quite sure what XP's "going off market" means, exactly.

Works OK for me. Got a dual boot XP/Vista system and use XP maybe once a month. Vista hates my photo processing programs.
although i think i need to get another 2gb of ram so i have 4 total (well 3.2 or so because mines the 32bit version)
cause every time i use adobe bridge cs3 and photoshop cs3 at the same time my computer runs way low on memory and it starts to act funky.

There's one issue not mentioned that can have an impact on pretty much anyone. That being driver support for new hardware that comes out after the cutoff date. Will hardware manufacturers bother developing drivers for XP when the OS is no longer even sold? It will probably be a coin toss.

Like he said.
I'm guessing driver support will continue, at least until a new OS comes out. Companies just have NOT been buying into the Vista thing. Neither has the government. The Navy computers we got two weeks ago came with XP on them. Now with rumors of Vista not being around that long, I don't think XP support is really going anywhere.
I disagree that XP driver support can be assumed for everything. For several items it seems like a safe bet. For example "enterprise" targeted systems to address the corporate concerns TzarChasm raised and video cards, where there is a large DIY user base.
But let's say it's September and you buy a new "consumer" level laptop. What if that laptop includes a new generation of mobile video card or network adapter? Why should the hardware manufacturer go through the time and expense of developing, testing, and certifying XP drivers when the hardware can never be sold with that OS? You think they're going to do it out of the goodness of their corporate heart?

Upgrading everything at work will be a nice nightmare.
