Thew mouse is working good. Its a little touchy but def workable. The guy told me he upgraded the drivers yesterday so I can do two finger scrolling. That part's pretty cool. I also just picked up an 8GB flash drive so I can load Snow Leopard over the weekend ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I hope you realize that that story is talking about a pre release build of 10.6.2 and that the final build that was released on the 9th four days after that story was published does NOT support Atom processors. you can read about it here from these much more current stories:

So I finally loaded Snow Leopard and Windows 7 ultimate this weekend on the 10V....lemme say this....the install process is a %$#$%# and very time consuming if you're setting up the dual boot option like I did.
none the less its done and the system's running very quick due to the 2GB ram upgrade & 250GB HD. I used instructions found on mydellmini for the OS install and now have my 10V dual booting into either O.S I chose @ startup. I even updated to the latest OSX update today with no problems.
I love this lil computer and have already started getting tons of complements the different places its been the last couple days....
Anyone who has any questions, feel free to ask. I plan on doing the glowing logo mod next but that won't be for a while.

I have to replace my PC soon as it's getting stuck. Wanted to get a laptop but if a netbook for much cheaper and I'm not a gamer should I go this route. Wife plays the farmville BS on facebook. I should be able to run most Windows programs right?

For the most part yes. However, if you do the dual boot option, you can install Windows XP, Vista or 7 on there as well and still make use of your windows exclusive apps. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner.
There are a few hackint0sh friendly notebooks out there....make sure you find the right kind. Here's a list to get you started

Yeah I'm posting it because for a little more you get a full pledged laptop. Netbooks don't work for me since I have internet on my phone and can watch You Tube. Some might fall in that category.

i've had my MSI wind for over 2 years now and if it broke tomorrow, i'd be ok. It has paid for itself 10 times over. It's an amazing machine and does what i need it to do.

Haven't used it enough to tell. Im sure if you reload XP or Linux on it, its fine...I just don't want to buy an external drive to do it and I failed too many times using the USB boot. Windows 7 has a utility to copy the ISO to USB, which worked, but it was too big for the 4GB primary drive so I needed to use the secondary 8GB drive, which is slower. Any case, if you want a machine to play with, you can have it for $100...

Tempting. I've been thinking about a hackintosh, but the wifi on that isn't compatible with OSX.

Nothing more than an inexpensive toy... Of course, it'd run Mac OS X. ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I've read these things have a hard time doing anything video, simple flash/youtube files... Truth?
For $300... Hard to say no.

I figure in a year there will be $400 netbooks with DX11 GPU's (ION2 maybe?). Crazy.

they can handle standard def full screen but not hi-def. There's an update coming to Flash that will offload the video to the graphics processor and that will make everything ok. The flash is version 10.1 but it's still in beta.

What about this broadcom crystal hd accelerator thingy that I've been reading about. Is it worth waiting for or should I go ahead and buy now? I've been interested in the Asus eee pc 1005pe, but the 1005pr (with the broadcom) will be available shortly.

thinking about getting one now that they are getting fairly cheap but i want to know from those who have netbooks how their experience is so far. This will be mainly for surfing the web, word processing, excel and occasional movie watching. I have a 17" laptop now but packing it up and weight is really getting to me

Very well worth it IMO.
The advantages far outweigh the small keyboard and relatively underpowered processor.
I can't believe I am saying this, but have you looked at the I-Pad as well?

to be honest i was really looking into one but, for the price and data space it just doesnt make much sense to me. Plus i know the future wifey will want to use the netbook while we are out and about so this something she wouldnt give me a hard time about why i spent money on it.

I'm almost definitely getting a netbook + a foxconn mobile drive xxs (or maybe a toughdrive) for my next trip. My current hard drive + external drive bay are WAY too heavy and clunky.

I love my Netbook (a Dell Mini 10v). Since getting it, I have not touched my full size laptop at all. My only advice would be to get a model with hardware accelerated HD video. I didn't, and watching movies can be borderline jittery.

How do you load movies to your netbook? I have the HP2140 and an external HD.

I really am enjoying how easy it is to get this in and out of my back pack and the long battery life as well.

Rick, I created a shared folder on the netbook, assigned the netbook and my home desktop to the same workgroup, and just copy ISO files (or Mpeg/AVI) over to the shared folder via the network.
I mount the ISO files with Daemon tools and play it like the DVD is right in the drive that doesn't exist!
