Nothing more than an inexpensive toy... Of course, it'd run Mac OS X.

I've read these things have a hard time doing anything video, simple flash/youtube files... Truth?

For $300... Hard to say no.

If a Hackintosh is the goal, you may want to wait until 10.6.2 is released. There's a buzz that Apple may kill Atom processor support beginning with this update.

I run into some problems streaming video from time-to-time, but it's nothing major. I'm not sure how the Atom holds up to it though, as mine contains a Celeron M 353.

I rarely have any performance issues with my gateway netbook http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668268.php

The only time I see a slow down, is when there are more than 4 window open at a time. That doesn't really bother me since I mostly just stream vids from the internet.

That said, I am relatively new to OSX and I'm not sure how it will work (if at all) with AMD and ATI.

I've been watching this for a few months, I'm going to wait for the dust to settle. I would like to build a hackintosh, w/2GB(upgraded post purchase) of Ram and a modest sized SSD, but it's a hard to find SSD netbooks.

Bought my wife an HP mini last year and it's still going strong. When the puter gets done loading, which isn't long, it's really fast w/loading programs, uploading photos, etc. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel pop up really fast on this. Granted it's office 2007.

Only thing is, I can't stand how hot the damn thing gets. I bought a Targus netbook chill mat and a wireless mouse to keep the palm of my hands off the hotter parts of the netbook.

Talked to my bro's friend, at $299 it's already below cost. No deal to be had. sale ends here on fri so I have to make my decision by then. He did suggest buying it and calling and threatening to return it and sometimes they'll throw up to 20% off at you because it's just cheaper for them if you keep it.

Ordered one today, I'm going to make it a Hackintosh with my new SnowLeopard disk, following the instructions from the Life Hacker blog this shouldn't be too big of a deal. Ended up getting what I wanted at a smoking price, couldn't pass it up, I'll keep this thread updated with how the Hack goes, worse case scenario I will just download Ubuntu, either way I am not using windows.

I bought my wife one. Put another gig of RAM, a SSD and Win7. It runs rather quickly.

I really like my netbook so far, it's a pile of shit by modern computer standards, but for a cheap, portable machine it's great. I think the people who don't like netbooks are expecting them to be something they are not.

If I am running IE and try to watch a video on youtube it gobbles up most of the computing strength, but is less noticeable on FF. I will do the hackintosh conversion soon, I am waiting for a few flash drives to show up.

Has anyone run a projector from a netbook?

I'd like to get one but all I can find are 128mb integrated Intel graphics. Which I am concerned won't do a good job of it.

if it can run a monitor, it can run a projector. there's no difference, they take the same input.

First Acurazine post from my netbook! I forgot how much I disliked XP, I have 8GB flashdrive on its way to me and then I will be converting this to a hackintosh.

I heard about the Atom processor problems with snow leopard and at the sacrifice of operating efficiency I got an older, but new in box, netbook with a Celeron processor and 16GB SSD. I couldn't find a "cheap" netbook with a SSD so this was a real steal, 8.9" monitor Asus for $179 After I get snow leopard on it I may look into seeing if this machine will support a ram upgrade and may up it to 2GB if it will work.

If I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard, would I be able to use my leopard install disc to make a hackintosh out of a netbook?

Depends, some Leopard discs are assigned to specific machines others aren't, why not just use the Snow Leopard disc? I've done a total of 3 machines to Snow Leopard so far and am going to be doing the netbook next week..

Well I only have the snow leopard upgrade disc, not the full thing. And anyways, you can't install the same exact operating system on two computers... right?

I've bought the $29 snow leopard disc and have upgraded 3 computers so far and plan on doing my netbook just as soon as a large flash drive arrives.

Legally, you cannot. However, Mac OS does not "activate" like Windows does so there is no technological barrier to stop you.

It appears that 10.6.2 that was released to download today DOES kill support for Atom processors. So pretty much hackintosh netbooks are out, you could always stay at 10.6.1. However all other hackintoshes that don't use an Atom are still a go.......for now.

I don't recall if you're already in law school or will be starting in 2010. If you have yet to start just be aware that one of the most widely used pieces of software for law school exam taking (ExamSoft SofTest) only runs on Windows. So if you're going to build a Hackintosh, be sure to do it as a dual boot machine from the get go.

I hope you realize that that story is talking about a pre release build of 10.6.2 and that the final build that was released on the 9th four days after that story was published does NOT support Atom processors. you can read about it here from these much more current stories:

Bought my mom a Dell Mini 10V and she loves it. She hated carrying her company laptop around so I thought this would be a good alternative. The only problem she has had is the trackpad. I thought she was just being retarded or something but the trackpad thing is terrible. It randomly moves all over the place and seems to click on things.

Other then the trackpad she loves it though and just like the commercials, EVERYONE asks about it.

Oh get the six cell battery. Amazing battery life

Guess what, I just got one this afternoon already hackintoshed! I love it and am typing from it as we speak. Its currently running Leopard 10.5.8 and I'll upgrade it to Snow Leopard sometime this weekend.

Let the good times roll!
