agreed and marantz > denon, denon just has a lot of features that 99.9% of people will never use and quite frankly are useless. marantz has better amps, etc. both are made by the same company and in the same price range.

How are you gauging marantz better than Denon? Just because they are made by the same company doesn't mean they are equal. Mercedez and Crysler/Dodge are the same company but the cars are quite different.

Also, the price for Marantz != Denon.

I've never liked Denon bc of the reliability issue. HK is much better for the $$ imo. I really like Onkyo but their stuff's been kinda weak the past few years. I have a Sony 555ES and while it's great when it works, I wouldn't buy another sony.

For the quality of sound, reliability, etc. I'd *personally* go with Onkyo.

I know it's not silver but for $600 you can't beat this one:

Maybe you should read my post, i said because marantz has better amps etc. Go into any real home audio shop, not best buy and ask them, I have never heard anyone say Denon stuff is better then marantz. And for the price, marantz stuff is better. Denon offers more stupid features like 12 different types of audio settings, pro logic this and that, if those things are so good why dont you see them on krell, lexicon, mcinstosh products? Denon incorporates stuff so the average consumer who doesnt know anything about home audio will think they have some great product because their receiver has 8 million features when you dont use 99% of them, and the parts that really matter, amp etc, they lack compared to a combarable priced marantz. im not saying marantz is the best, their not even close, id consider them low end for home audio.

And the Denon 5805 is overpriced, you could buy quality seperates for that amount of money. B&K, Adcom, NAD, Musical Fidelity.

$900 CDN or US??

If US, you might be able to find a Rotel at discount for about that. Which I would recommend over any other choice in that price bracket.

Saying Rotel is greater than Denon is not a fair comparison - not comparing apples-to-apples. Rotel is not in the same league as Denon. Doesn't Rotel make entry-level hi-end gear (ie; Rotel RSX-1067) where as Denon makes high-level mid-end gear (ie; Denon AVR-5803). However, according to current price comparisons I've found the Rotel RSX-1067 average priced at $2100 and the Denon AVR-5803 average priced at $2800. The Denon AVR-5803 offers a little more in features, performance and sound quality for the price. It might be true that Rotel quality is better than Denon, but by how much?

I've listened to the Rotel RSX-1067 with B&W speakers using a Macintosh or Marantz DVD player and found that I didn't find the sound quality or listening experience as pleasing as I did with the Denon AVR-5803 with Boston Acoustics speakers using the same DVD players. The Denon AVR-5803 with B&W speakers sounded nearly the same as it did with the Boston Acoustics, but not as flat and clean; sort of colored to where my ears started to feel fatigued. After I hooked up a Denon DVD-9000, Denon AVR-5803 and Boston Acoustics speakers, that's when I made my choice to go with Denon. The sound quality and reproduction is as clean, flat and uncolored as I've ever heard from an AVR. As far as the Denon's video up/down conversion and switching as related to video quality (as view on both SD and HD monitors), there are probably few rivals.

Based on a survey of all the reviews I've found, the Rotel does edge out Denon in; support, ease-of-use and maybe a little bit more in reliability. The Denon is a bit difficult to configure and the remote is clumsy. But once you got everything configured and figured out, it a beautiful thing to listen to. So far the only problem (knock on wood) I've had was with the DVD-9000 having problems with reading a few DVDs. It was due to a weak laser sensor which was upgraded to a better one. However, this took over 3 months. Support is by far Denon's biggest weakness.

If you go with Rotel and it sounds good to you, then you haven't made a mistake. If you go with Denon and it sounds good to you, then you haven't made a mistake either. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. As far as reliability issues you really need to weigh things fairly; Rotel doesn't sale any where near the number of AVRs as Denon does. So the occurrence of reliability issues will be higher with Denon. What really needs to be looked at is the number of units sold for a given AVR and the number of reported problems. This will give you a truer picture of reliability. It all comes down to personal taste and what you can afford -- NOT A PISSING CONTEST.

Comparing Denon (sans 58xx series)/Marantz to Macintosh and Krell is like comparing apples to oranges. I did read your post *duh the quote* and you said better amps, I asked how you gauge that.

Of course you can't go into BestBuy and them about Denon. They won't know what you're talking about! lol.

I've listened to both and I like Denon better personally. It's all a matter of taste.

http://www.avsforum.com/ and http://www.hometheaterspot.com are good places to do research for those looking for stuff.

huh!? cheaper than denon? popular?!

maybe some rotels are cheaper than some of the most expensive denons. but as a whole Rotel has a much more mature product line then denon.

as for popular... most people don't know who they are...

anyway, my Rotel replaced my Denon... and I couldn't be happier.

If I were to replace my Denon AVR-5803 (not that I plan to), which ROTEL would you recommend to match and/or exceed power output, performance, features and sound quality?
