Need a new Verizon Phone

My wife dropped her pink razr in water. She feels bad, but I told her about when I put my cell through the laundry a few years ago to make her feel better... lol.... Anyways, looking to pick up a cheap Verizon phone (between $50-$100), must have text msg capabilities and good battery life.... any recommendations? No need for a camera or other bells and whistles....

If all you need is text messaging and nothing else i would look at these. They are free with a new contract and close to your price range without a contract.

Verizon Wireless CDM 8945
Nokia 6215i
Samsung SCH-u340

If you are getting a new contract and can go into the $150 range, and text messaging is a really big deal to you, I would look into this.

Samsung SCH-u740

v60 =
Whenever you need to get a new phone without renewing your contract, I would just go on ebay or craigslist and pick up a new RAZR or something. Too bad I just sold my Verizon RAZR in mint condition to someone else for $90...you should be able to find a good one for that price.

The verizon stores around here has a $50 replacement phone service/option for cases like that and they usually get you a new or refurbished phone of the same kind. When I broke my LG vx6100 back in the day, I paid $50 and they gave me what seemed to be a brand new phone, all I had to do was give them the busted phone. They don't give you a new battery though....

I agree, I got this phone a little while ago as well... Same size as a razr, but much more stylish I think...

I used to only buy Nokia and Moto phones, simply because of the usability of the menu... now that verizon re-flashes all their phones with the same "verizon" menu, you won't have that problem...

VX8600 FTW!!!!

Light, slim, stylish, and, MOST IMPORTANTly, functional.
The GUI is awesome. I don't use the default Verizon version however. I use the Arch theme. And the bright display helps. This is the best, IMO, of all clamshell phone, if not better than its main competitor, the RAZR and KRAZR.
Of course the black glossy finish is prone to smudges, but it clean up easily. Plus, it seems to be scratch resistant too.

Because you are not willing to sign a contract, and the phone got wet, they are not going to cut you a break on the price of a phone. You are going to be looking around the $150 range for the biggest piece of shit verizon sells. As said before you will be better off going to ebay or craigslist. Or ill sell you something out of my collection......

So why don't YOU get a new phone and the wife can use whatever you've got now?

^^ Sounds more like good news.

What makes the LG VX8600 so great - functionality wise? My phone (Moto v710) is about 2.5 years old and it's having issues, plus the battery life is sucking. Don't know that I want to spend that much on a phone right now. My only requirements are: Good sound quality/reception, good battery life and bluetooth.

Other than the declining battery life, it's worked fine for me. I mainly got it because it was the first bluetooth phone available for Verizon and I wanted one to go with my '04 TL. What complaints do you have?

That sucks. I haven't had that problem until recently - and it's still pretty infrequent. FWIW, I got mine the first day it came out for Verizon, so it's about as old as it can be.

I use phones for text messaging A LOT and it would freeze while typing 1 out of every 20 messages. Drove me nuts.

That would definitely suck. I sent about 5 texts this past weekend without trouble, but that is also more than I had sent out in the previous 5 months.

Someone at work just got a new Blackberry through VZ for $50 - with some plan changes + 2yr contract. Not sure I want one of those, though. Still deciding, as my wife needs one, too.

my v710 is actually one of my fav. phones... for how old it is and that it is one of the last verizon phone to hav it's distinct menu, the tech aint too bad... that saying it does annoy me when it freezes when im taking a long video of 1 min or more and the battery does suck, but i bought a replacement battery and the life is 500% better - i have used it, listening to mp3 and videos and have not seen it go into red again

Where'd you get your battery from? I tried getting some non-OEM batteries off of e-bay, but the battery life indicator doesn't work with them, so I haven't used them.
