Need a new PC

Dont really want to upgrade, but with MS pulling the plug on XP, I guess it's time. Looking for a replacement PC, would like it to work with my 2 existing monitors.

Any suggestions or links to good buys out there?

I dont really do intensive video games, so just a decent video card. A solid state drive might be nice.

What exactly do you do with it? If 1000FPS in BF4 isn't needed I would totally rock one of the Intel NUCs or Gigabyte Brix...

^mahar, I was just about to say, if you're spending over $600 you're spending money on stuff that isnt needed.

those little mini pc's are well under 600 and look perfect!!

I made the switch from Windows to Mac and I love it. Big price difference but its worth it. It always works. Check out newegg.com they have really good deals. Also you can build a computer from scratch for pretty cheap but if you dont wanna do that they have good deals on computers.

I'm buying the i5 NUC to run XBMC for my home theater...

Intel HD 4000/4400/5000/5200 Iris graphics really aren't that bad. I should be able to run Wii emulators with the 5000...

im running a dell xps that a friend gave me.
Im sure it was once worth well over $1200 retail when new....
with the crappiest specs inside...
its probably worth less than $400 now, but the specs are perfect for what I do/use the computer for.
it probably has the oldest i5 in it with like 4 gigs of ram.
crappy vid card, but all I use it for is web browsing and an occasional photo edit here and there

Its not. Most Windows PC's (laptops) are generally the same as far as build quality. The crappy brands are gone. Whatever fits your budget and has the specs you like and the size and feel is the one. If its on sale, its good.....Or a Mac.

This is priced way too high for me, the screen is too small and I don't like the keyboard. But it is a Mac, so.... clearly I can't go wrong.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm probably going to stick with Windows software though, my mother has an Apple and it drives me batshit every time I need to use it. So either Windows 7 or 8. Neither of my screens are touchscreen though, so 7 might suffice.

It needs to meet my porn requirements which can be multiple online videos simultaneously. Plus Netflix or Xfinity movies/shows. My multitabbed browser is also a memory hog tapping out my 2gb ram easily.

What are some decent brands out there now a days? I bought a HP laptop about 5 years (at the time it was the top of the line) and i tell you what that was the biggest piece of crap that i have bought, nothing but problems with that thing. I heard really good thing about Toshiba.

my friend is in IT he said the only difference between the big brands and the off brands are the tech support. as long as the guts of the computer are the specs you need, who cares what the case says.

Brix/NUC ftw. They will suit your needs nicely, be small, quiet, draw little power, and budget friendly.

I have a powerful offbrand laptop that I bought 2nd hand from a co-worker.
fucking powerful and it works!!

I didnt know the screen sucked until I started messing around with photos on it.
I had to hook up a 2nd monitor to it.

other than that its great and plays whatever games you throw at it.

A better 3.9ghz i7, Iris Pro graphics (5200), can do 16GB memory. $650 + hdd + ram. At a fifth the size.

Or if you don't need the superior graphics look at the i5 models and save some cash.

The difference between the Intel 4400/5000/5200 isn't THAT huge. It's there though. Lol

Also, important for me, they do make fanless cases for these machines. Especially the Intel NUC.

The low end computers (under $600) use lower end components. Build quality is also different. For instance, low end laptops have keyboards that flex vs say a ThinkPad keyboard which is very solid, comfortable, and easy to type on, so if you do a lot of typing that may be something to consider.

I've also seen low end laptops with chassis that flex too when picked up. Low end laptops also tend to have dimmer screens, even when the brightness setting is at the max. Then there's the poor viewing angles. There's more to it than just tech support.

If you don't want your Win XP computer anymore, you can recycle it at Best Buy for $100 credit toward a new PC.

I need to be able to support multiple monitors. SSD + Memory + additional graphics card makes that a bit much.

I only need to add graphics card + SSD to the PC I posted earlier.

The power supply for my 10 yr old Win XP desktop just went out. Coincidence?

Heard some electricity popping type noises and then a burnt smell. Hopefully it didn't fry the mobo or processor as I'd like to keep it around for all my old games.

Hey man whatever floats your boat. mSATA + ram isn't that much more than that $800 Asus. Not much more at all and you'll have better components.

If you aren't gaming hardcore I don't see why you need a gfx card? You'd be surprised what an Intel 5000/Iris can do for you.

If you need the hdd space buy an external.

And the NUC and that Brix support dual monitors just fine.

Intel 5000 is more than enough for two screens.

I play 1080p movies on my Macbook Pro via HDMI to my TV.
