Need Internet Connection Help (cutting in and out)
**Mods, not sure if this belongs here or computer gaming, maybe home & garden, please move if necessary.**
I have an issue with my wireless router, my boss has the same issue, and it seems after some googling, others have the same issue, but I have not been able to find a fix anywhere, and this is extremely frustrating.
My Comcast internet goes from the wall to a splitter, one to my TV, and the other to the Comcast supplied router. Then the internet connection goes from the Comcast router, to the wireless router. Lastly, a connection goes from my wireless router to my main computer.
The issue has been happening since I got the wireless router, off and on, but in the last few days it has been unbelievably horrible. My internet will be working fine, then just stop working completely (page not found, etc, errors). So I have to physically unplug the power cable from the wireless router, wait a few moments, plug it in, and then its fine again. But after some time, maybe a few hours, or a few days, it happens again, just cuts out. Most recently though, I've been checking my Internet Connections through Control Panel, and it says CONNECTED, even though there's no connection. So I click the repair button, it goes through some text boxes, then works again. But only for like 5 or 10 minutes, then the internet stops working, I have to click repair again, or unplug the power from the router. No throw a bone in here, sometime, it doesn't say connected, it just simply says no connection, to where only unplugging it fixes it (not clicking repair).
I've tried deleting and reloading all the router stuff, and now I have the internet plugged straight to the computer. No issues. I called Comcast, and of course their fix it to only use their wireless router (not the Netgear I'm using), and they won't help otherwise. I would think its a hardware thing, except many other have the same issue I've found, using different types of wireless routers. So I believe its a setting or software thing, but I'm not computer savvy and would have no idea what to change/fix.
Kinda long, sorry for that. Any help or ideas is much appreciated!!

you can also just buy another router and try it out, if it does the same thing, just take it back to the store, and yes changing the channel is a good idea as it might be interferring with some other electronic device close by
and please stop referring to the comcast modem as a router, it gets very confusing

wire your computer back up to your wireless router, open IE and type in 192.168.1.1 in your adress bar, that should take you to your router settings, i'm not sure exactly how to find the wireless channel on yours so you will have to do some exploring of your own
EDIT: if that address doesn't work try, 192.168.0.1 cuz you said yours is netgear so it might use this one instead

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try this stuff out tonight as see how it goes.
Here's a little bit of an update guys.
I couldn't really figure it out any further, so I called a friend over who is somewhat computer savvy. Changing the network didn't fix the problem, but he did manage to fix it another way. It's working good for now, but we'll see how long it lasts without reverting back to the previous problem. Here's what he said worked:
What I did was completely reset your router. There is a hole on the back next to the Antenna, it is located in the metal vent part. While the router is plugged in hold down the button for 10 seconds. Once reset plug unplug it and plug it back in (just a precaution). Make sure your cable modem is plugged into the correct spot and then plug in any computer directly to the router (not via wireless, must be a CAT-5 connection). On that computer open up an Internet Explorer window and clear out any links in the address bar. In that address bar enter the IP. It will pull up a log in screen. That logs you into the router setup screen. From there everything is set to factory defaults. You can set everything up from there.
So basically, he just started from the beginning with the wireless router, and its working now. Hope this helps anyone who might have a similar issue.
