Need help with Outlook 2007
Need help with Outlook 2007
I got a new job within the same company. Different building. Different department. We use Outlook for email. The emails are run on a server. I can access email using Outlook at my desk, or on-line from our company's website.
I believe the emails are downloaded on the my PC each time I log in, like at the start of the day. So there is a copy in the server and also on my PC.
The PC links and connects to the server. So if I delete something, it will sync.
(sorry for all the text. you all know this. and I want to have a clear starting point for my questions).
1. I would like to delete all the emails that is on my PC WITHOUT deleting it off the server. I still like to access it on-line. I've agree to help out my old job, when I'm at my new job. However, I don't want my email to sit on my old unused PC. Yes, there is a password lock, but still.... I assume my emails folders sits in a windows folder somewhere in my PC.
2. Is there a way to turn off this sync between Outlook with the server so my PC won't be "syncing." I like to do this like the last day before I go.

Cabanalane,
I cannot stress this enough.
Do not do work for your old company on new company time unless your new company knows about it and is OK with it.
Yes it was foolish to link any mail account to Outlook that was not the company mail, never do that again. Ever.
OK, step one: show all files on the computer - Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows 7, 8.x or Vista
Step two, use windows search to search for "*.pst" and then a second round of "*.ost" both without the quotes. (You should close outlook before doing the search). Delete any files found. The files found may be named as your email accounts from when you set them up in Outlook.

It's the same company but different department. But same story. Thanks. There is no replacement yet. They discuss perhaps after hours. So I will be paid as extra income.
New dept does not know it. You think I need to mention this? If it's afterhours, it's my time, correct?
Another reason why I want to connect with my old emails is to cover my ass. I don't want people to start talking crap, and tarnish my rep.
Example.
He never told me this back then.
Yes, I did.
Here's my email from Sept 2014 when I told you.

If the new supervisor is OK with it, send a confirming e-mail to the new supervisor, with copy to whoever you're working with at the old dept.

I got bad news for you... If the old department is within the same exchange server as the new department (most likely so) you can delete all the PST and OST files you want, they still have them. I guarantee they have backups of the exchange server. How long they keep them is another story, but they have the backups. Deleting only makes you look guilty IMO.
