My phone ruined :(

Today at lunch my friend dropped my phone into a cup of water on "ACCIDENT", alright I didn't spaz out I just took the phone apart and tried it off with my shirt. 20 minutes later I put it back together, and it turned on fine. Everything was perfect. Now I just look at my phone and it turns on, but the screen is jus like black/blue like when you first turn it on but no real screen. It still rings, and dials calls but the screen doesn't show a thing. At first I thought the battery was dead but its fine. If I let it sit (dry more) will it work? The phone isn't even wet any more...

What can I do!? I dont have phone insurance. I've only had this phone (Nokia 3120) for a few months...

Anyway I can just get this phone for cheep used or buy it offline, or will it work again!? HELP PLZ KAY THANKZ!

It should work fine once it completely dries out, could be a day or two. I sent a phone through the washing machine on hot once and it still worked. The screen was dead for a day or two, like yours, but eventually it started working again.

yeah, just let it dry for a while in order to avoid water damage.

Add insurance in the meantime.

Water =
Salt Water =

I learned this lesson the hard way. I was completly trashed in Key West with my coworkers (on a summit). Me and another guy went to take a piss off the Southern Most Point. Well, it was dark and I was drunk and assumed that there was decline to the ocean. Nope, walked right off a ledge into the Atlantic, wallet, cell phone and all. Came up to the surface to the laughs of my coworkers and two high school girls taking my picture for the school paper....

Sorry bout the plz kay thx... heeheh

But it was weird the screen worked the first time I turned it on then I put in my pocket and ever since I took it out to answer it the screen is just a dark black, and blue color and is lighted up. How should I let it dry? Take it apart? Blow dryer? Leave it outsidE?

BTW, It seems try to me I dont see any visible water?

Take off the battery first and try blow drying it (on low heat) for about 5-10 minutes. Try to get the air to blow through the whole phone. Then let it sit overnight on something warm where there is minimal moisture (ex. tv, monitor, near a heater, etc) It may take a few days to completely dry out. This is to dry out any residual moisture that may be on the circuit board(s), wiring, connectors, etc. Good luck.

best thing is to unscrew it and let it dry out in front of a fan, and if its sticky use some rubbing alcohol.

take your phone apart again.. the water probably corroded the circuits.. look for the corroded parts... take a toothbrush and dip it in a little bit of alchohol and clean out the corrosion. that works sometimes

But as bimmer88 said, some components might have corroded. Nothing might happen now, but it can down the road. Just be sure to have insurance; it comes handy when it really dies.

thats what happens.

i had the same prob with the speaker/ringer
oh shit, i just remenbered. i dropped my phone the other day, so i took it apart. there are 2 little nipples that are embedded in the plastic on the inside, they make contact to thebus lines on teh circuit board. on mine it was pushed in and somehow i got it to pop back out.

you may have to take it apart to clean the connection between the 2 and then reassemble. if you need me to take my phone apart and take pics let me know if you have problems.

this solved my prob, but my phone was dropped on concrete

If you just got insurance on it...you might have to wait a certain period before you could use it for your phone... might want to check just to be sure before you call them about it.. In case you allready didn't know..

Maybe the policies have changed, I am not sure.

Once I lost a phone the same day I got service in my Startac (back in 1999).
It was in a club in south beach; i believe someone just took it from the holster.

Insurance paid for it.
