Arrow Mobile AIM with Verizon?

I want to have AIM on my phone, but Verizon doesn't really give any instructions on how to get it. And AOL says it's possible, but doesn't talk about the costs, etc....

I have a Motorola V710 under a family plan and will be getting a new phone in a few months.

So...

What do I need to add to my plan from Verizon? Mobile Web? Text Messaging Minutes? How does it work?

Do I need to download any apps from AOL?

Does anyone with Verizon service have any tips?

Thanks much!

I use Agile messenger, works pretty well.

I have a Cingular 3125, which is a WM5 smartphone, but it will work on any phone that will allow 3rd party software to be installed.

It doesn't require text messaging, but it does use data to connect to the network, so you will need a mobile web connection.

IM+ is another popular AIM program, but i've never used it

Or you can just sign up for the mobile service (free) through AIM. Unfortunately, the person has to message you first and you can reply that way. But its nice to have other communication. It only charges as text messages, but there is no extra fee involved. All you do is login at AIM.com(?) and do the mobile AIM and put in your phone number and carrier. Log off AIM, and you're on mobile mode.

I have IM+ and I like it quite a lot. I only use it for Gtalk and MSN, but the AIM option is there.
