I thought Windows 10 was supposed to be the last version of Windows?
I knew I wasn't crazy https://www.theverge.com/2015/5/7/85...ion-of-windows

I put the 11 leak on a Dell XPS I have and I'm impressed. Its faster, it feels better, the trackpad actually sort of works, looks pretty good. Looking forward to the progression of it.

From some of the leaked pics I’ve seen, it looks kind of MacOS like?

Not really. People say that the start menu and taskbar items default to the middle like the MacOS dock. I moved it back to the left where it belongs.

11 requires a TPM chip

I have client data on my home PC so I bought a tpm 2 chip for my asus mobo years ago

All Oem PCs have had tpm since 2015 but if you custom built your mobo probably didn’t come with one

Most modern processors have TPM built into the chipset, you can turn it on via BIOS.

Looks like if your CPU is more than 4-5 years old you are going to be SOL without an upgrade? I'm surprised that first gen Ryzen missed the cut.

rocking, I think the final build, via insiders build.

Groovy, man. groovy.

at first, seems a little cartoonish compared to windows 10's more professional aesthetic.
after a while, I was used to the more bubbly android material design language.

I'll likely be the first to UAT W11 at our company.
I did the same for the W7 to W10 upgrade.
We're planning on blocking users from upgrading until we're sure it all jives well with our systems.

I've also got one of the older machines in the company, so it'll be a good test for compatibility there, too.

Do you think that Windows 11 will be a lot better than Windows 10 for an Ultrawide?

not necessarily "better" per se...

the beauty of a great OS is that it runs in the background with no issues, does what you ask of it and displays on whatever display you have running.
so, far... I have not run into any bugs and wouldn't hesitate to use on an ultrawide. (I should probably upgrade to an ultrawide)

I haven't done much with the OS (Win11) just browse websites(youtube, acurazine, gmail)
I have fired up a few games, but just for testing purposes. the games ran smoothly and then I quit.

lol ^^

I have amd ryzen 5 4800 laptop and the only slow down I've seen was transcoding an MKV file with win11.
transcoding video via Plex and CPU usage went to 100%.

to get around it; just played the MKV file directly from laptop to TV.

other than that; win11 runs exactly like win10

I think the centered taskbar and the window snapping options that appear when you hover over the window resize button are nice improvements that will be most useful on an Ultrawide monitor

If you want real control over how your monitor(s) behave just get DisplayFusion. You
can do sooo many awesome things with it like creating virtual monitors, creating
[display profiles you can toggle between so your ultrawide can be configured as
3 seperate displays and toggle to a extra-wide and smaller display for some tasks
and toggle to one ultra-wide for others. Same with desktop profiles, configurable
per display taskbars etc etc etc

I’ve played with it on new PCs for clients but it’s not on my personal system since I have a 6th gen i7. It’s nice, restarts fast, seems more responsive, settings is much better. My boss has it and likes it

so, after reading your comment, I updated my main laptop, which has a 10th gen i7, and I have to say... noticeable improvement... I also have another smaller laptop... (the original Surface Book) that has a 6th i7 (like yours), are suggesting that I shouldn't do the update or it's not going to be offered for it?

I think it might not be supported. Win11 has to have some secure boot option for the cpu or motherboard.

Microsoft now allowing Windows 11 on older, incompatible PCs

Despite years of warning, it's now officially possible to install Windows 11 on PCs that don't meet requirements.

Is that only for PCs that have a supporting CPU but don't have TPM 2.0? They're still telling me to fuck off

Yeah that seems like a clickbait article. The MS help article it references does not tell you how to install on unsupported hardware.

So I finally turned on my PC in maybe a year. Did all the updates and then it had a notice about windows 10 ending support in 2025.

I enabled AMD CPU fTPM on my Gigabyte B550i board and now it magically supports Windows 11.

Probably upgrade to 11 eventually.
