Macbook pro + wireless HP printer = stumped!

Long story short:

Less than 6 month old Macbook pro.
Less than 1 year old HP wireless all-in-on printer.

Worked flawlessly for 6 months.
Now all of the sudden it does not print. Nothing was modified or recently installed to cause a problem. Printer works fine from other PC's within the network.

Says something to the extent of "not detected or not on network."
...but I can print a test page directly from the macbook, but cannot print from any other app/program. Go figure

I added an additional new printer manually inputting the printer's IP address to see if that would fix the problem. Nope. Same result.

I will add the the printer was installed on the macbook pro during the original out of the box setup process when it asked if there was a wireless printer.

Any thoughts - advice?

Sometimes you ahve to install via usb on a computer then setup the wireless setup on the computer.
If not try resintalling on the mac while wireless. Ill check back here to see whats going on in a few days

What's strange is that it worked flawlessly with the wifi printer setup via the OG macbook pro setup process.

Now all of the sudden the printer & mac don't communicate.

Have you tried deleting the printer entirely and trying the set up again.

I think apple and HP are notorious for this little hick up. I had it happen on an older computer a long time ago. I can't remember what I had to do to fix it, but it finally started working again.

Usually, anytime something like this occurs I just delete the printer and re-add it.

I seem to remember receiving a HP printer software update within the last week via Software Update.

Come to think of it, YES! I did do a HP software update about a couple of weeks ago. Hmmmm....perhaps that was the culprit!

Crap~!

Or most likely if you ha d power outage and your router restarted it gave the wireless printer a different ip address so now your Mac can't find it. Fix this by either giving the printer a static ip outside of the routers dhcp range or a dhcp reservation.

I see this all the time on supportspace with wsklar and stogie

Winner!

I "reset" (deleted) the printer(s) and added a new one via bonjour.

Seems to be working fine now.

Go figure.

I thought this crap only happened on PC's.

Not likely the issue since it still works with the other computers on the network...

Either way it's a good thing to do. It's just a matter of time before your router restarts for a variety of reasons and gives your printer a different ip address.

Yep, I always set an IP reservation for printers if the router supports it. Otherwise, I'll go the static route in the printer setup/web interface.
