Sucks about the cable, but OH WELL

I stopped by both Verizon and Circuit Shitty after work today and they both said Friday.
Neither was willing to hold one for me so I guess I’ll just have to hope there’s one left at 5PM.

I got the phone yesterday. Pretty neat. I have yet to explore the full capabilities yet though.

Picked up my 8100 after work today.
Also got a 512 Meg MiniSD card for it at Circuit Shitty for 59 bucks.

Been playing around with it for a bit.
Works pretty good.
Definitely an upgrade from my LG-VX4500 that was swapped to the wife.
Already figured how to dump photos to the SD card and then copy to the PC.
The dude at Verizon said I’d have to sign up with a picture plan and “send them” to myself.
Yea right…..

Next I’ll have to let the phone geeks over on Phonescoop and Howard Forums figure out the MP3 player and Bluetooth interface.

It’s about time Verizon came out with a cool phone.

I picked this up yesterday as well, so far my first impression is it kicks ass. I have no idea how the MP3 player works, if anyone can post how to get that going. I've got the data cable, but can't figure out how to get anything onto the phone....oh and one more thing:

Is there a way to turn off those damn disco lights when making/receiving a phone call? Highly annoying.

I like the phone but unless something is wrong with mine, the battery life is ridiculous.
I charged it overnight on Friday and played around with it Saturday and Sunday and it was giving me a low battery warning Sunday.
I fully charged it on Sunday afternoon, left it in the car all day Monday at work and overnight.
This morning it is DEAD and won’t turn on and it wasn’t even used yesterday.

My LG-4500 would last for over a WEEK on an aftermarket extended battery even with occasional use.

I’m going back to Verizon tomorrow night to exchange the battery.
If that doesn’t work, it’s going back before my 15-day exchange is over.

You drained the battery first then charged it right? If so it shouldn't be a problem and maybe you got a bunk one.

Yup… Drained it Sunday all the way down to the battery meter flashing.
Fully charged overnight Sunday/Monday….Tuesday morning = DEAD.
Calls made/received on last charge = 0

I’m reading on PhoneScoop and Howard Forums that a LOT of people are having battery issues with the 8100.

I’m thinking about going with the Motorola E815 or just going back to my LG4500 which the wife has now.
But she was using my old LG 510 and that sucker is getting really old.
I don’t know how much longer it will last.

Maybe give your wife the 8100 so she won't call many people and then you go back to your old phone.

I guess I won't be too happy with this phone, I hate carrying a charger.

I got a replacement battery yesterday so we’ll see how this one lasts.

Verizon tried to “snooker” me, but I caught them.
I put a small mark on the battery before I gave the phone to the tech guy at the store.
He was in the back for 15 minutes and he said he “checked out” the phone to be sure there were no problems.
He brought the phone back and said they put in a new battery.
I thanked him and turned to leave.
After a few steps I popped the battery cover off and SURPRISE-SURPRISE, the mark was still there.
They never changed the battery.
So I opened the “Employee’s Only” door and waved the guy down.
Right there in front of all the people in the service area I asked him if I could please have a NEW battery this time and then proceeded to show him the mark.
He claimed his manager must have “accidentally” put the old one back in.
He got a new one out of a box and I handed him the old one.
I got a few chuckles from several people standing in line.

Shit like that really pisses me off. You can’t trust anyone anymore.

I am having the same problem with my 8100, my battery was fully charged on Wednesday evening, I used the phone for about 20minutes yesterday in total and then today I wake up and the battery is completely dead. I am charging it right now and if it doesn't appear to be getting any better by mid week next week I will do the same thing with getting my battery replaced. The verizon guy who sold me my phone said they had sold about 40-50 and had yet to see a problem.

I could also be having a problem since I get a very weak signal, but at that point the phone should be going into a sleep mode and reducing battery consumption. I'd hate to see if I actually used the camera or mp3 player features.

I haven't read the manual to figure out about speaker phone, only because I have a bluetooth headset that works great.

Piece of SHIT is going back to Verizon next week.

I fully charged the “new” battery on Wednesday night.
By the end of the day Thursday (no calls made or received) it was down to 2-bars.
This morning (Friday) it was DEAD again and wouldn’t even turn on.

I think I’m gonna try the Motorola E815.
If I don’t like that one I’m gonna go back to my LG 4500 and wait for the Samsung A970 later this fall.

If mine doesn't work I might just cancel the verizon contract and go to someone else. I honestly have no desire to keep messing with this phone.

Shawn - do you have a bluetooth headset setup with it that might be causing it to drain?

None of your customers must post on PhoneScoop.

I feel between phonescoop, howardforums, and the other mobile phone forums...people analyze the product to the tee...and if it has a glitch or a small problem that most people can deal with...they make it out to be the biggest problem...

I used to read the forums and go by what they said before i would purchase a phone or recommened it....but after a while i just gave up on them..because most of what they said was not practical for the avg user...

I was reading about some software updates or something like that to fix the bugs for the 8100. Are those out yet? or do the new phones from Verizon already have those updates?

Nope…got rid of it on Tuesday.
Wouldn’t hold a charge for more then 24HRS.

I got a Motorola E815 on Tuesday, but it was defective. Not a good first opinion.
Battery wouldn’t charge at all, but it did last from Tuesday night to Friday morning.
I just swapped it out for another E815 this evening and we’ll see how that one goes.
Took my Mini SD memory card back and got a TransFlash.

I was a big LG fan (last three phones were LG), but I think I like the subtle look of the 815 more.
The 8100 was a little nuts with its blue cover and flashy multi-color “disco lights” that dance whenever the phone rings.
And you CAN’T turn them off.

So far it looks like the 815 will suit me fine.

Will report more in a few days.

I'm off to Verizon tomorrow, and it's gonna be either the e815 or the lg8100, unless someone recommends something else.

picked up the motorola e815. Haven't had a chance to play around with it much. I've just made a few calls, but it looks like its pretty cool. Has all the features I need and more.

I've kept this phone even though the battery is a bit of an issue and found that when I'm roaming in Canada all weekend I never have to charge it, but here in the states it needs to be charged everyday. I am thinking it has something to do with the lack of service in my area and the phone working to keep keep a signal or searching for it frequently.

yes, and when it switches from 1x to evdo you will notice big battery change...

there is also a software update for the mp3 player...(and it is supposed to help with the service and battery from what the techs tell me)

Would I just go to Verizon's store and ask them for the update or do I need to tell them I have issues with battery life and the mp3 feature?

Also, is there a way to have Verizon's voicemail give the time and date of voicemail?

To check the date and time of the voicemail I believe you press 4 or 5 once you are listening to your message.
