Hard or soft?

I have a timbuk2 or however they fuck they spell their name and I like it. It is a soft case, keeps water off, etc

I've always been a fan of Booq bag, in particular their Vyper line --> http://www.booqbags.com

They're not exactly cheap, but maybe you'll find something you really like.

The one I have cost 20 dollars. It is pretty good. Not bulky. You can drop it and I'm pretty sure nothing important will break...

I've been around the block a few time with the Targus-type "traditional" styled laptop cases (messenger's I guess). Never did find one I really liked.

Got a Victorinox Laptop Backpack about 18 months ago and like it a lot better. On Sale for under $100 incl tax.

This one (or very, very similar): http://www.swissarmy.com/TravelGear/...product=32361&

Personally, I have a Booq Vyper Sleeve for my MBP that fits into their Python Bag.

I wish they brought back the BOA back from 2 years ago. That was an awesome bag.

For everyday use I use my Lenovo bag that came with my laptop.

For sport I have a Duter Giga Office

For business trips I have a Saddleback leather bag, yes it's expensive but a sweet bag/backpack that gets a lot of compliments.

Also since you're into photography...

you may want to consider bags from crumpler, kata and a few other well made bag companies. They all offer some nice bags with laptop and photography support.

End all and be all of laptop bags/cases. Yes, their a bit pricey, but I promise the custom fits and quality are worth it.

My experience is that bang for the buck <> inexpensive. The better more expensive bags more than make up for their costs in durability and longevity.

I have the ubiquitous Tumi. It was an Xmas gift from my wife. I know Tumi is thought to be overrated and over-expensive, but I am still using the same bag 8 (eight!) years later. It looks like new. No frays. No tears. It doesn't even get dirty. It has been on several hundred flights and carried basically daily. I think it was $350. Expensive, but I think I will get at least 12 years out of it.

I am not saying to run out and buy a Tumi, but don't assume cheap is a bargain.

I have a Wenger (Swiss Army) ballistic nylon laptop case from a Circuit City sale a couple of years back-- its comparable model is about $50 now, I believe. Both Wenger and Victorinox use the Swiss Cross; I believe both have lifetime guarantees on their cases and knives.

Various models of Wenger and Victorinox bags are usually between $20 and $80 and can be found in Target, Marshalls, Office Depot, Best Buy, on-line (I've used e-bags for other stuff, but it has laptop cases), etc.
