Kindle Fire Sale

I got an email today from Amazon telling me that I could get up to $70 off on the kindle fire tablets.

The sales are as follows for prime members:

1. Kindle Fire HD 8.9 for $200
2. Kindle Fire HD for $149
3. Kindle Fire for $129.

I have been shopping for a tablet for the past two weeks and was about to order the iPad mini today before I got the email. I have a iphone 5 (first iphone) currently and would love to sync it with a iPad.

The ipad mini is a little over $300, and the Kindle Fire HD is half that at $150. This would be my first tablet so I was looking for some advice. I've read a lot of things comparing the two and the Kindle seems to come on top in almost every category, yet a lot of people still pick the iPad over it.

I have an ipad2 and my wife has a mini. We both have iPhones. I just ordered a Nexus 7 gen 1 used for $122 last night. I should perhaps have ordered a Nook Hd instead. Why? $100 new on eBay and it runs full Android Google Play out of the box. I want to learn about Android and see if I need to continue to pay the premium. I already run chrome, gmail, google maps and google search.

My research says the Kindle is not in consideration. For less than $125 I will take a chance. Good luck with your decision.

PS The new IPads may be announced in a few weeks as well.

For $149, I'd rather get the 16GB Nexus 7 (routinely goes on sale at Staples for $150 after $30 coupon).

The Nexus 7 has better specs unless you need HDMI out.

The Nexus 7 has a better/faster processor (quad core 1.3 GHz Tegra 3 vs Kindle Fire HD's dual core 1.2 GHz OMAP 4460). It's like 30% faster. It also has better graphics performance too.

Another plus is that the Nexus 7 has GPS and NFC which the Kindle Fire HD doesn't.
