Just picked up a new cellphone....

...and you know I love the "phones" who cares about the service but this phone is kickass, I can't tell you what it is, normally I wouldn't post this but this time, it's a GSM phone like for ATT/Cingular/T-Mobile...and it is very cool and IMO better than any Sprint phone.

As soon as it hits the market, I will post cause I'm sure some of the players on here will go for this one.

Actually that's what I thought too at first, but it's about a nice size and fits nicely in your hand and pocket; looks deceiving. The 6230 is good too but I'm impressed with the 6600 screen, I've never seen a display so clear and crisp, not sure why it really looks so good (how they did it). And the new series 60 software UI is totally different, the whole user interface is cool. Side by side the 6600 squeaks by the 6230 especially the feel of the plastics and how solid the phone is. 6230 is smaller but that square look and old UI is "last year's" model for sure. Hold them side by side, you'll see.

So I can make CDMA phones for Sprint better. I get all kinds of ideas from other types of phones, especially the ones out of Japan and Korea. Whenever I get some free time, I go thru these phones. If I see something I like, it will probably end up in a Sprint phone (if it can be applied). My direct relationship with the phone manufacturer allows me to do this. I love this new Nokia phone. I did look at the Moto V600...not impressed. But I do like the Motomixer for music. I also have to maintain ATT/T-Mobile/Nextel accounts...

For example, alarm features like do you ring the alarm aloud even though the phone is on silent, phonebook sorting, ring tones and ringer types, ways to hyphenate dialing strings, large and small font usage on the display, LEDs and blink patterns, power on/power down screens and logos, how to render the clocks (analog or digital), speakerphone functionity, bluetooth, when your headset is plugged in, does the phone ring thru the earpiece or thru the phone, or both; a whole bunch of things; today I gotta get in and understand java games, pictures, and videos, 2way sms, and all the new stuff that's coming. Sometimes it is overwhelming.

There's quite a few things I am directly responsible for that you probably don't know about. The StarTAC from way back, when the phonebook got all the labels/icons next to the phone number, that was me; now it's common. Awhile back I was working the SonyEricsson T608 and Bluetooth with the new TL, so I got a good idea about that car early on. Today, it was my idea to tag an incoming caller-id that does not have a phonebook name match, to tag it with the state. So if you get an incoming call from 201-555-1234 that's not in your phonebook, the display says "201-555-1234 New Jersey" only on the Sanyo phones starting with the Sanyo 8100. That was my idea. Right now I have another idea for this summer, if I am still at Sprint I'll post about it.

NO!!!

I hate nokia's default for that, how a message alert on silent mode is set to "long and loud" from the factory. What the F*CK were they thinking, its called SILENT for a reason people. Whoever made that decision should be demoted to tech support.

Anyway cool phone, but it look too square.

Each carrier is responsible for settings up the defaults. I've had to think about this one for awhile. What happens if you set your phone to silent so that you don't hear the ringer or the text messages while you are asleep at night. So at 6am, should the wake-up alarm be silenced, too?

I think there are two settings for a wake-up alarm:

1.Override the main ringer setting or not: That should take care of the above. If you set the wake-up alarm to long & loud, then you should be able to decide if you hear this when the phone is set to vibrate.

2.Power-up on alarm or not: That way you can decide if you turn off your phone or the battery dies overnight, your phone will turn itself on (and ring aloud) at the 6am alarm or not.

I agree that if you put your phone on silent, that's what you mean, silence. Another thing I came up with at Sprint is two different settings, "ringer off" and "silent all". Too often people like to shut off the ringer only but everything else they should still hear like a text message or a voicemail alert. Only if you choose "silent all" then everything is completely quiet, you should never hear a peep out of the phone, not even keypress beeps, voicemail alerts, or text messages. This is how it works on the Sanyos. Sanyos is my test manufacturer because Sanyo is a Sprint exclusive. It's much hard to get Nokia to do something since they try to keep the settings global (same across the different carriers).

Silent all would be nice...for the life of me, on silent my Nokia still plays the game tones...what a PITA. I've got to go and turn those off.
