Apple gave a little bit on this...but still has a long way to go....at least they did something.
^^
they were set against it to prevent the transfer of illegally downloaded music. but with the DRM kit that's out right now for iTunes7 it doesn't matter either.

I've been having issues with itunes 7
It won't recognize my nano 90% I hook it up and then when it does, it won't update the firmware.
I've been without my ipod the past two days and I'm being reminded how much commercial radio sucks.

Apple has to keep up with the competition...
You can get a 8GB Sansa e280 (Sandisk) player with metal case, FM tuner, video playback, more space, plus a battery you can replace for a lot less $$... Regardless of how many people have swallowed the apple kool-aid, they will lose market share if they don't start making competitive products.

I've been eyeing a new iPod, too. I currently have a 20 gig 4th gen clickwheel.
i had to go back to 6 because 7 refused to recognize my ipod after several hours of troubleshooting yesterday and today. i've been browsing the apple forums and lots of people are having the same problem. lots of people are having lots of problems actually. it's too bad... i really needed the multiple libraries feature.

I have a question that maybe some of you pros can help me out with...
Ive been modding my phone and whatnot and I need my song files to be less than 192kb or whatever for the bit-rate... Is there a way to convert all my music to those specs? Ive alredy changed my importing pref's to 192... any pointers?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it's still around but you could use bladeenc to do a batch processing of all your mp3 down to 192kb.
Back in the day when mp3s were first starting to hit the market, I used to convert my cd's to wav using creatives audio ripping program. And then I used bladeenc to convert those to mp3 automatically. it was very simple to do.

Is anyone else getting crazy crackling playback from ITunes 7? Mine starts to wig out, then upon shutdown and restart, its fine. Makes it hard importing CD's and knowing whats scratched and whats not... :-(

. Also, because it changed its default audio output it only comes out of the front 2 channels instead of putting those channels onto their respective rear channels.

Question: When I "tag" my videos (tv shows that I recorded---not purchased from iTunes) as TV shows, in iTunes they automatically move from the "movies" section to the "tv show" section.....................BUT.............on my iPod they completely disappear! They don't show up in movies or TV shows. Anyone know a way around this?
