Thumbs up iTunes 7

Apple released iTunes 7 today (along with the new iPods and movie downloads)

iTunes 7 is a HUGE leap IMHO. Nicer interface, and ease of operation.

Is the 8GB Nano one of the new ones just introduced or has that been out for a while and I just missed it? I've told myself that I'd get a Nano when they exceed the capacity of my 6GB mini.

too bad I still can't get my iTunes to burn CD's anymore even after the update. It used to work just fine. I really don't know when it stopped working. It may have stopped working when I did a minor version upgrade within version 6.

Damn thing keeps throwing an error.

But I do agree. 7 is a huge improvement over the last. And the 80GB Ipod is looking good. and it's cheaper than the older 60GB.

The highest nano they had previously was the 4GB.

I really didn't thought 4 GB was the highest flash on the market I did a search and it seems that people are taking a broken 4 GB nano and a working one, taking the flash drive out of the broken one, soldering it into the working one and getting 8 GB....Im wondering if apple is doing the same (using two 4 GB flash drives)..

That happened to me, too. I also lost a whole bunch of music. I fixed it though...but I don't remember how. Try going to Apple's site and look in the forum. There were several threads about the problem.

Now I'm afraid to upgrade to the next version after what happened to me before.

I'm fine with my 4gig nano. I only use it for music & only my music. I don't mess with i tunes store or pics or any of that crap.
I have over 2 days of music. That's more then enough for me.
I'm not upgraded to 7 either. I'll upgrade & then won't be able to do something & then I won't be able to downgrade. I just don't trust apple, or Sony when it comes to music.

The new iTunes is pretty sweet, I would use it even if I didn't have an iPod

I went through so many of their posts on their site trying to fix the problem.

I've tried:

Reparing the software through the Control Panel ... didn't fix it
Upgraded to 7 ... didn't fix it
Upgraded firmware on burner drives ... didn't fix it
performed a registry tweak that someone else had suggested ... didn't fix it
tried different CD-R discs (all of which work in Roxio ) ... didn't fix it

Did you ever try uninstalling and re installing. Or is that what you mean by repair?

I stopped using itunes when my ipod finally stopped working (my fault). What did they do to the interface exactly?

Yeah, I did all that, too and it didn't work. My BF fixed it for me eventually, but dammit I can't remember how. And I remember contacting Apple about it and they were of absolutely no help whatsoever. I was really pissed.

I didn't actually remove the software. Although I was thinking about doing that, but I was scared I may lose my music. But I'm sure I wouldn't if I tried.

perhaps I'll try doing that next. But then again, I just did the upgrade to version 7 so I have a hunch it won't work, but gotta rule it out.

Also I forgot to mention in the list of things that I tried I also reinstalled my Roxio Easy Media Creator Software and that didn't do anything either. That burning software works fine with my burners. It's only iTunes.

Apple's help on iTunes is pretty much non-existent. I do have to say it's worse than Dell support in my opinion (regarding iTunes). Others on the support forums have complained about iTunes lack of support as well. It's amazing the number of problems people experience, the sheer number of forum posts, but no formal support.

And there are a lot of people that have and still are having the same problem that I'm having.

If you happen to recall how your BF fixed it, please share, I'd really appreciate it.

Hope this helps you out. Make sure to back up all your music first!

I think it's the uninstallation of iTunes that may fix it for me. Since that's the only thing I haven't tried, I guess I'll have to

thanx

Sure...but if I remember correctly, it was my Norton that was screwing things up, so if you have it, turn it off while you're doing the fix. Good luck .

^^^

Although the colors and overall layout are the same, the buttons are different, newer categories.

The burn disc button is now at the bottom. When you buy music it doesn't list it in the purchased music section. Instead, another link opens up in the left menu that says "downloading" where if you click that, it lists song that are currently downloading and as they finish, move that listing to the purchased music list.

There's also (what I think) is the newer way of viewing your purchased music. you can do list view, album view, and this newer viewer where it has all the albums in this animated section at the top that can scroll.

Yeah I came to my conclusion too quickly. My favorite feature so far is the "Top Shelf" browsing of all the album covers in the music collection.

ya the "top shelf" is cool. but the 2 things that i like the best is the ability to have multiple libraries and you can now have artist and album artist. looks like the xml structure may changed when you export the library as text. i had some scripts that read it, now i gotta redesign it

you can now back up from your ipod to your computer, but only the songs and movies that you've gotten from the iTunes store. And only to a total of 5 authorized computers.
