It's official - Apple iPhone + Cingular
#201
I want to see some real-world cell bills reported by people before I jump. Cingular is just as pricy as Verizon for data services. I know I'm spoiled by my cheap-ass grandfather prices on T-Mo, but I've been out of contract forever and isn't this as good of a reason as any to switch?
Still.. $29.99 for 1500 minutes / month + $19.99 unlimited blackberry is hard to beat for a personal line. I wonder if my fiance will take over my T-Mo account so we don't lose the deal

I want this phone but I also want a new laptop when leopard comes out, I think Ill be going w/ a laptop... my treo has been good to me and Ill have the tethering hack.
I hardly use the touchscreen on my Sprint Treo 700p, Im on AIM 24/7 and it sends me free notifications when I get IM's so I just go online and IM for as long as I want... hahaha. I pay 15 bucks for unlimited online usage, I get 50 texts a months and hardly go over... Im gonna get free unlimited online usage soon along w/ 500 texts so I can text more "freely"... We share 500 minutes on three lines, hardly went over in the past 5+ years that we have been with Sprint.
we need iPhones, but can you get them for the right price

okay but seriously, i have a question for the at&t rep....do you think that if at some point after getting the iphone and the plan, you'll be able to deactivate your data plan (let's say you lose or break your phone)? I mean, data plans aren't really bound by contracts...just the voice plans are. As of now, you are never locked into a data plan (I think)....if this is the case, then the 2 year contract is much more bearable.

in the headphone clip, they don't show you what you're s'posed to do with the device while listening to music (belt clip? sleeve? case?)
Also, when diung all that poking with your finger on a website, how do you actually follow a link?
There were a couple more that I forget.
That said, if I could get one less than $599 I might be willing to switch to AT&T. I wonder if the phones will still have the Cingular logo now that Cingular has once again become AT&T?

1500 SMS for $10 or unlimited for $20.
The plans are really pretty good. This is because Apple wouldn't allow AT&T to subsidize the cost of the phone. I think this will attract plenty of new buyers.
And damn, the people on macrumors. Those are some of the biggest whiniest cry babies I have ever seen.

For these prices I'll get the iphone 2.0 when my Verizon is up in Janurary. I pay $54.99 for 900 minutes + $35 for data (company discount) + $10 for texts = $100 before taxes and insurance
So for less cost I can have the iphone + 1500 extra sms = $90 before taxes

FYI - It appears that you can activate the iPhone youself from home via iTunes. All that's needed is an iTunes account. Not a big deal once you're up and running, but I gotta admit it's got a "pretty slick" factor to it.
My understanding is that these AT&T plans are iPhone-specific. Part of which is that the data feature is tied to your contract just like voice.

Yes to the both.
One of things people are crying about on macrumors is that data is seperate because they dont want data.... Then don't get the iPhone. There is no point in owning the phone without data.

Everyone will always have different needs. But the rate plans are competitive enough that there should be any real reason to complain over them. The people pissing and moaning on macrumors would still be pissing and moaning if the phone was free and the plan was $5 a month. That was really my point.
