We are calling and posting other iphone people to see if this is the case with them as well, i have no been in a lacking area so i cant test it. If this is true though, then this is one truly shitty thing they've done, and didnt tell anyone about beforehand either.

But before getting all pissy over I just want to confirm it, and that isnt some setting that has been missed.
No this isn't true at all. Was at a beach club with viperrepiv last night, so signal but hooked up to their public wifi just fine

Sorry I originally read his post to say "doesn't accept income calls through bluetooth" , but he said "files". Yeah files don't work.

But, as long as you add a the desired picture to your pics folder (that is marked to be syched with the phone), then you're fine. I guess it sucks that you need the computer as a middleman, but still pretty easy to get pics on there. As far as sending via bluetooth, can't you just send a picture via email?

I'd like to say though, that despite some limited functionality (i.e. bluethooth) and some clear feature omissions, I continue to be impressed with this phone....the interface is such a pleasure to use, and so well done, it just makes the phone so enjoyable to use. And when it comes down to it, a lot of the features that they left off are really things that I didn't use that often. Personally, I only used the bluetooth file transfer on my phone once in awhile, and even more rarely did I use picture text messages.

I also am really impressed with the iPod part of the phone. It sounds better than I expected, and the integration with the rest of the phone is just done so well. For example, when you are listening to music and you put the phone to sleep, the music keeps playing. When you wake it up to check the time or whatever, your background on the phone is changed to a full screen shot of the album art, and the track info is displayed.

The headphone jack was a huge deal to me, but now that I shaved some of the plastic off my headphones, they fit, so I'm happy.

The keyboard is really great too (esp when working with the predictive text). Think about how nice it is to not have real estate taken up by fixed keys.

Good, he sent an email saying he did some reserach and thinks he found a solution, some of which might have been a little user error on his part.

So iPhone won't MMS, here's a list of e-mail addresses for all cell phone companies.

Not at this time. It's heavily rumored as upcoming in several places though. Interstingly, the iPhone's realase seems to have prodded M$ into issueing a patch for Exchange 2K7's IMAP4. It supposedly sucked so bad that it wouldn't work at all with the iPhone.

Not entirely proprietary, but its somewhat sunk in, so a lot of headphone jacks don't fit.

People who didn't buy one read those to feel justified in not having done so. People who did buy one read one to see what kind of jackass would write an article dissing the iPhone.

$200 just for parts

If this is true, talk about a markup! And Apple fanboys think Apple is "for" the people.

Apple is out to make a profit like anyone else. If they can assemble a product for 200 that they can sell for 500, more power to them. I don't feel 'cheated'. The design and engineering of the phone, not taken into account in that figure, are worth the extra few bucks.

I hear ya, they are like any other business, need to profit to stay in good shape.

I just find it hilarious that they mark it up that much and could probably afford to make it slightly cheaper to get even MORE people to buy it, and have an even larger market share. They are just as greedy [perhaps more, who knows] than MS and people bitch about how much MS over prices software. Don't get me wrong, apple does have some good stuff going, but it's all about image and Apple does a great job of hypnotising the normal ignorant consumer which makes up a large majority of the audience. The prosumers do their homework and buy into the product, not the hype.

that's just my take on it.

The reason it's so cheap to make is that a lot that inside it has been used for awhile. Not saying that it's old but they perfected the assembly on them many times before.

Hell Nike does the same, $10 pair of shoes sells for $150.00.

Yeah, I hear ya. A lot of people buy the apple stuff because its trendy. They have also managed to become a status symbol because of the price. Like a prada bag or a brietling, people know its expensive. Its bling. I bet a lot of people bought the iPhone simply because its pricey.

On the other hand, for people like me who just love gadgets, the thing is simply cool.

The physical components in an Apple product have always been available elsewhere for less money. Apples big contribution is the software and physical design.

FYI - It turns out you can apparently activate an iPhone on an AT&T GoPhone (prepaid) plan. You obviously won't have a two year contract but you also won't have EDGE data services either. Still, if you're one of those people that WiFi connectivity is good enough, then this may be good news.

Thats great news. My parents essentially pay for cable modem twice, one for each of their houses, they pay for my university connection (included somewhere in the tuition), and they pay a portion of my off campus internet bill. I just can't justify any more data connections and as long as I have WiFi I'm set.

I know this has prolly been asked before but does anyone know about unlocking the phone? im sure it may limit capabilities... but the two year contract is a deal breaker for me.

apparently you can replace the apple earbuds on the supplied headphones with your own buds...which means that you can keep the button with the mic and music controls. It actually doesn't look too hard...but I don't have a soldering iron or glue gun. hmmmm

anyone want to give it a try?

Not worth it. Plenty of companies are coming out with similar versions of the earbuds, or adapters to use your own but also have the mic/control.

I only ever use them when im at home in lieu of a bluetooth. I still have my BT from my treo but I hate it. I am waiting to see how apples earpiece is, if its not very good I'll go with the jawbone. My friend has one and wont shut up about how great it is, the reviews say the same.

Same shit all the haters on the phone troll, bitch, and moan about. None of it is essential to the use of a phone either. Nice little touches, sure, and great if they are added later via software update (and Im sure many will) but as of right now, who really cares. I'm willing to be the majority of the people crying out so much is mainly teenagers.
