Post Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 released.

I know I made a thread about Beta 1 being released but I can't find it cause AZ search is the suxor! Anyways Beta 2 came out today and I'm trying it out, I've since switched to FF 3 so we'll see if this can win me back but I'm always jumping back and forth between the two. It looks slightly different than Beta 1, it actually fits right in with the new AZ look! The bar that was silver across the top for IE7 is now a hint of light blue just like AZ is now, it's like IE8 was made for AZ or AZ for IE8!! Here's a pic

The biggest improvements are private browsing aka pr0n mode which covers your browsing history tracks while in this mode, a feature available in Safari but dropped from FF 3.

Smart Screen Filter is the Phishing Filter from IE7 plus malware filter and Cross Site Scripting Filter to help prevent installation of malware, etc.
Also DEP (buffer overflow protection) works for IE8 now basically another reason for IE or Windows to crash for no good reason.

Search suggestions, a feature available with FF but not Safari still a great feature none the less.

So pretty good but nothing revolutionary just building on top of Standards mode and Web Slices which were announced with beta 1.

Download Beta 2 here:

Installing anything from Microsoft in Beta is asking for problems.

This beta so far is way better than the last beta. The first was intended for developers only and this one is aimed for consumers. Pages render much better than Beta 1. A couple new features are "the awesome bar" that debuted with FF 3 is in this beta. Another neat feature is color coded tab groups and search suggestions are better than FF version.

Ok Fire Fox question...

On IE you can do a CTRL+O to open a small window for another web addy. Can this be done in FF.

I love this function on IE

Anyone know if Private Mode writes browsing history to a temp file, and then deletes it upon close or if it uses encryption to store history and cookies for the session?

If you can hit the "Back" button in Private Mode, IE has to be storing browsing history somewhere, albeit temporarily....

If IE8 can remove embedded ads in text, then I may install it. Otherwise, I'm happy with FF3 + ABP.

IE8 RC1 was released today and is supposed to be much better than beta 2. I never really had a problem with compatibility with IE 8 but whateve I heard it was a problem with others and it's getting better.

Here's a review of it
http://www.winsupersite.com/live/ie8_rc1.asp

I can't run it since I'm in Windows 7 but if I ever go back to Vista then I'll try it out.

imo there is no 'perfect' browser. I have IE, chrome, and FF, and I use all 3 for different things and different purposes.

Forget the pr0n mode, install CC Cleaner and BC Wipe... CC cleaner removes all the history thoroughly and BC Wipe does a DOS 7 Pass Wipe... Next step is Kill Disk with 35 passes, lol.

Only if I have to, which at work is required for a few things , but for the most part, it's all FF3

Outside of work, it's all FF3.

IE is the one eyed prostitute with gangrene on my street corner.
you can't ignore its presence and every once in a while it does come in handy.

most of the times though, no thanks
