International Calling (Sprint)

Hey guys - I just got a job flying a corporate aircraft and there will be a decent amount of international flying. I have sprint right now, and would like to keep them since i have a pretty good plan (1150 anytime + nights and weekends free ect... for 35 bucks.)

My contract with sprint is ending soon and i was trying to get a new pda phone but now i think i need something that can work "globally" What are my options with sprint and if i had to leave to go with another carrier what would you do?

Thanks!!

the samsung pda phone works internationally... might wanna check that out... call up retentions when ur contact is up and tell them your situation... tell them u were looking to cancel because of ur new needs... they will work with you to keep you with them. retentions = *2 and just say "cancel" or something like that iirc. hope that helps... check out sprint users forums

yeah, thanks for the heads up. I'm already on a retentions plan + United Airlines employee discount.

I'll have to give that samsung a look. Do i need a different sim card for every different country?

What countries are you flying to? If Korea or Japan, then you'll need a different phone from just about anywhere else. Generally you want a GPRS phone, at a minimum tri-band. I think they also sell quad-bands now, but not sure what the difference is.

You won't need a separate SIM for each country. However, one option would be to buy an "unlocked" phone off of eBay, then use your Sprint SIM when you're in the US, and buy local SIMS for whatever country you're going to.

Take a look at flyertalk.com, then go to "Travel Technology" forum for much more info.

in some cases you might be better off getting a unlocked phone and using the service in that country. some countries calling to the US is actually cheaper. There will be alot of times that you can't get signals using country's antennas
